Default Mechanic Needed

Would like to have my passenger side valves adjusted. It is a 1999 5.7L Vortec. If you are a mechanic and needs little extra cash send me a PM with a price to complete the job correctly and we can set a time to do it.

It is really pretty easy, first off you do not want to adjust just the passenger side, might as well set them all, but you can start with the passenger side.

Get the engine up to operating temp and then shut it off. Remove your valve cover and then start it up again.
Warning, it may fling a little oil around but should not be to bad.
If you had an old valve cover it works great to cut the whole top out of it so you have access to each rocker nut.

Go to each valve and loosen the nut on top until you can hear it chattering. Tighten is slowly until it quits chattering and then give it abotu 1/2 turn more. Move to the next one and do the same thing.

Finish one side put the cover back on and move over and do the next side. Should be able to get it all done in half an hour or so.

The valves are not adjustable.
But if a valve lifter noise check rocker arms and push rods for wear and or for a rocker nut backed off.
Also for a broken valve spring.
When do you hear the noise?
Start up or cold or hot or all of the time?
Just one side ot both?
I've seen warn rockers/push rods , all most all the later GM Vehicles have non adjustable lifters Vortec

Piston Slap which is normal according to Chevy sounds just like a rocker out of adjustment

Its on the passanger side. All the time. I think it may be a rocker arm nut backed off a little if the valves cant be adjusted. I can do the job but just don't have the time.

All Vortecs have that Curse of chatter on start up. Mine does that but this is different.
