Default Sandy River Report

Floated from Dabney to Lewis and Clark today. We put in at about 6:30am and never touched a fish until 2:30pm when I caught a nice hatchery summer below the rope hole on diver and bait. I think I was the only one to get a fish on that entire stretch of river today out of all the boats we talked to. Heard of two hooked and lost under the Troutdale bridge but that was it...............we need rain. The only other thing we caught was a chrome bright unopened silver bullet someone lost........your loss, my gain. It was a perfect day for fishing, just needed some more fish.

I was in the DB directly behind Artwo when he hooked his fish and got to watch him bring it in. Nice fish, lots of fight. Even if it wasn't my fish, it was great to watch someone catching a fish. I tried everything yesterday for the two ladies I had in my boat. You name the bait, it got wet yesterday. They bought my trip in a fund raising auction. They were good sports. I just wish I could have sent them home with a chromer for the barbeque. The Sandy is running very low and extremely clear. Water temp is cold.

Thanks Doc, I didn't know that was you. You should have introduced yourself, didn't you see the ifish stickers on the side of my boat. Well maybe next time we can swap some lies.

Artwo, I was so busy watching you catch that fish, I didn't think to look for the ifish stickers. My mistake. It was nice to talk to you. Have a good week.

Fished above Dodge Park on Saturday. Friend of mine hooked and landed his first ever steelhead (native). One of those 50 Blue Foxes he bought at Joes finally paid off. Probably went around 8 or 9 lbs. I had one hook up and lost it. Quite a few rolling around, mostly dark. Saw a few dead fish (natives) that would have probably pushed the 20+ lb mark.

MADWIZERD,
No snoopy pole this trip, I left it at home with its little owner. I had a couple of guys from work with me that had never salmon/steelhead fished before. I hooked that fish and wanted to hand it off to one of the guys but after a short run it raced upstream, went right past the boat, rolled twice and was ready to net, I couldn't quit reeling fast enough to hand it off. Sorry man, I didn't put it back in for ya it's home in the freezer so you'll have to find another one for yourself. I did split it between the three of us so everyone got a couple nice fillets. I won't be out again until June 1, I've got family stuff going on the next couple weekends. Maybe I can squeeze in an afternoon trip in between though. If I see ya on the river next time out I'll give you a holler.
