Default Too Many Fins

What's the deal with all the fins on the Springers????

We broke the ice in my new boat yesterday and it had one to many. Heard or saw of seven others and they all had extra fins, except one. Combined with the few more I'm hearing about on this website it looks a little lopsided compared to the earlier figures released by the game and fish departments we all heard about.

We fished around Deer Island yesterday. Saw what we thought was the same sealion working the edge of the ship channel and we saw him with no less than five fish for the day, maybe six.

Fish with all their fins is a GOOD THING.

If we are seeing this many "wild" fish on the Willamette, I think we should be allowed one "wild" springer per season. I don't think that ODFW has a 100% clip rate. Or at least let us keep "wild" springers on the streams not known to have "wild" springer runs, such as the South Santiam. I don't think it matters on these non "wild" springer streams or hatchery only runs.

For example, the South Santiam is a hatchery stream when it comes to springers, and I'm sure some "hatchery" springers spawn in there, causing some of these "wild" fish. I saw several "wild" springers caught last year on the South and other streams.

I'm sure that there are strays from the North Santiam, as it has a noted "wild" springer run. But the strays shouldn't be in there anyways, so it messes up the balance of the South Santiam system. So why not allow 1 "wild" springer on streams like the South Santiam, or other non-native hatchery springer streams?

I think you may find the early fish in the Columbia are mostly unclipped. We observed this last year early on in the season. It'll get better...

Because the s.santiam had a run of springers way before there was ever a hatchery. along with several of its tribs.

I wonder why the gill netters are catching so many more marked fish than unmarked? And for you guys it's more unmarked

"Wild" very few "Unclipped" few more
"Clipped" they're coming and a few are here

Patience...

It should be noted, the tribs in the lower columbia use to allow the catch and keep of unclipped springers, but this year it's highlighted in blue - must be clipped
