I beat BOE's 100K hours, feels like 99.98K
After several trips of rattling a bazillion kickfish, hands stinking like a school of sardines, multiple wounds from owner hooks , and missing uncountable take downs........I threw on a RSK and picked my first springer up in my first pass on the lower M.C. yesterday
I want to thank the Ifish community for the help this season I have never fished the big rivers before and so far it has been a great experience thanks to all of your information on achoring, kwickfish setups, locations, and numerous other points that all help; especially the fellowship. This is the 6th fish in the boat, my first, for the year.
oh that is a big picture...I will get better at cropping next time!!!

Way to go Gus! Fine looking fish and what a beautiful family you have there! Heres in hopes that there will continue to be many more fish around in the future for that team in your picture!

Re: I beat BOE's 100K hours, feels like 99.98K
Great picture and congrats!!!! Nothing like that first one after 100,000 plus hours on the willamette.
I popped one again this morning before work. Pops wanted to take his buddy Cliff fishing for the first time in our boat. I told him I would go out until 7 am and then he would need to run me to the ramp so I could be at work before 7:30 am.
Well at 6:55 my rod went down!!!! A nice bright 13lb hen fell to a k15 "funky Chicken". That is Springer #3 on the Willamette. Seems the days that I only have a little time or fish only a half a day is when I hook up. Sure did not expect this one to happen.
Might have to go back out on my lunch hour to see if there is another fish dumb enough to bite my hooks again.
Keep up the good work Gus. There are still a lot of fish coming up the river.
Bernie

Really a nice fish there, it's a great feeling to catch your first fish. I caught my first springer last week, native though, but man what a rush. Can't wait to eat one now.

Re: I beat BOE's 100K hours, feels like 99.98K
BOE,
I have a plan to beat your dry spell... I have a new lucky hat, shoes, socks, pant, belt, underwear, pocket change, all of which is now going washless!!! I am not sure which one was working for me but I am not risking my karma  With a lot of luck and a lot of effort I hope to get another one...before I retire.
BTW I am smoking the tail and belly, got any tips on how to keep the fire down in the smoker

OUCH!!!
Tips for keeping the fire down in a smoker:
You can use your run of the mill fire extinguisher, or as I did last time just dial 911    and wait for the big trucks to show up with the big hoses to reach the fire up in the trees your garden hose wont reach.
Anybody want to come over and see some inventive ideas on my sprinker system I installed inside the smoke house.
