Default Finding lures

A couple of weeks ago there was a post about losing your favorite lure. I've lost a few of my favorites so I could really relate.

While fishing last week on the Columbia I found a K-14 floating down the river. We picked it up and I put it into my tackle box. I didn't use it and the Columbia was closed.

Well onto the best part of the story. I couldn't get a bit on Saturday to save my life. While looking through my tackle box. I saw the K-14 sitting there and I looked at it rather closely. I noticed that it had a few teeth marks in it so I decided to change the hooks and put it down. It wasn't down 4 minutes and I had a fish on. Long story short 3 more fish bit on it that day. I had 3 on it on Sunday as well. I feel sorry for the guy that lost it. He must still be crying because this lure flat out works.

Yep....That one is mine....You can return it anytime.......

Nice story and glad you found a good one.

It totally amazes me that there can be such a difference in plugs.

Fished Sunday with 2 identical K-15's....8 ft apart and the one I had set up with 2 split rings on the hooks to set them back....had all 6 take downs.

I also had to turn the eye about 30 Deg. to the left to make it run straight. A real piece of junk...that the fish wanted to bite all day long.....Go figure.......

There is always a few plugs that are real fish catchers. I just don't know why someone wouldn't use heavy enough leader (50#) to keep one of those fish catchers. Seams stupid to me to be out there putting in all that time and not want to keep a plug.

I know, I know. There are plenty of people out there that will say, "I use 30# and have never lost a fish because of it." But how many do you hook? If you hook a couple you probably wont break one off. If you hook 60 or 70 the odds go up. If you have that one good fish catcher you don't want to take any chances of a fish wrapping the line around a hook and breaking off, one of those plugs is worth a hundred others.

Don't cut your self short out there guys, use heavy leader, you want to have every advantage you can get for the time and money spent on the river.

Found a green/pirate mag wart hung in the branches on the S. Santiam on Sunday that obviously has seen a lot of fish. I was in my buddy's boat so he kept it but I can tell you, he is excited to put that one to action. It is so worn out, it almost doesn't have any color on the back end of it, too many teeth marks. Whoever lost that one was feeling mighty low.
