Some SOB stole my trolling motor & poles/ reels tackel box!
 They could have taken my riding mower or my truck( not my tow rig)almost anything else. Moment of silence please.
I got home from fishing yesterday afternoon and parked the boat just like I always do.
I went out about an hour later to tidy up & close things up. I left three rods under the side rails like I normaly do put the tackel box under the transome & closed up the back curtin.
I got a call from my son this afternoon telling me someone was looking at my old I have for sale parked next to the new boat. He wanted to know where the trolling motor was that went with the old boat.
I told him It's on the new boat. No it's not DAD,
How low can some sc__m s_cking SOB stoop?
May who ever stole my stuff be cursed and nerver catch another fish. No matter how needy.
If they wanted to go fishing all they had to do was ask!
Living in the country I guess I put too much trust in folks.

Re: Some SOB stole my trolling motor & poles/ reels tackel box!
Sorry about your troubles Small Fry :depressed: :depressed:
I know your pain, I lost a trolling motor a couple years ago. I still look for it on the back of boats. I put a big light on the front of the house that comes on when it gets dark. I made a fancy locking devise that will slow them down on the next one. I took a ball peen hammer and smashed all the thread that bolt on my big motor so it wont come off anytime soon.
If they want it they will get it, I just try to slow them down long enough to draw a clean bead on their forehead.

Re: Some SOB stole my trolling motor & poles/ reels tackel box!
Sorry to hear of your loss, reminds me of getting a motor stolen off a boat I had for sale, too bad for the crooks I never could get that motor to run well. Then a year or two later I learned an ultimate lesson when I got 3 salmon rods 2 tackle boxes and other misc. stuff. about $2,000 worth and my deductible was $2500 on homeowners and no insurance on that old boat!!! :depressed:

Sorry to hear about your loss :depressed: .
I am still looking for my motor that got jacked, It was a 3.5 Suzuki White cover with bright blue lower ,same blue that the older Hondas were painted. It had the built in tank however I added the fitting for a boat tank. There are not many around like it. So if you see it please write the boat # down and E-mail me.

Tell us what it looks like, you've got 4000 eyes watching for it. The guys that jacked your gear will be after the rest of ours too. It's in everyone's best interest to nail these idiots. Post a new thread that I.D.'s your motor and says STOLEN. Then hit it every day to bring it up to the top for a while.

Re: Some SOB stole my trolling motor & poles/ reels tackel box!
You need an alarm on your boat, that goes off when someone is around or on your boat. The alarm goes off inside the house so that they dont know that it went off and your calling the police. Bev's alarm for her boat has stopped her motor from being stolen at least three times in the last year. The alarm cost about $200, but then thats cheaper than loosing a motor and gear.

Re: Some SOB stole my trolling motor & poles/ reels tackel box!
sorry to hear a loser stole your stuff. I like the alarm idea....kind? I also like the idea of what BOE did. Don't think my fiberglass boat will like the welding treatment.
I also see a new bolt on the market that spins unless you have the right socket. Slow them down some unless they find your socket first.
Tell me more about the boat alarm please.

Kind of makes you wonder about the felony charge in Salem for duck stomping. The post from earlier today (I think it was Capt Hook's post)
I'd rather imprison a thief.

Re: Some SOB stole my trolling motor & poles/ reels tackel box!
I appreciate everyones understanding of my loss.
When I get my new kicker I'm going to have it welded on.
The insurance company is ******* me around. Motor will be covered under boat policy, $500.00 deductable. The rest is covered under homeowners $500.00 dedcutable. :depressed:
I guess I will have to rehab some of my old gear until I can buy a little at a time.
I have a Ifish decal where is the best place to put it on the boat for everyone to see? Any body make a Ifish flag I can hang below the stars & stripes?

Re: Some SOB stole my trolling motor & poles/ reels tackel box!
The alarm is heat and motion sensitive. Its made by Dakota Alert. Its wireless and the alarm is loud so that it will wake you up out of the bed.
If you need more information, just email me and I will give you their phone number.

Re: Some SOB stole my trolling motor & poles/ reels tackel box!
I feel for you! Theives are only good for target practice and organ harvesting. That is my law. I catch a thief, he takes a one way ride out to big blue... no debate, no guilt, no mercy. I have been ripped off too many times in my 42 years and I consider thief population reduction to be a service to society.
But we can't always watch over our loved ones and belongings. I have to credit still having all of my boat's accessories and gear to my dog. My "Titan boy" is a sweet loving protective animal. But he is also smart enough to know where his territory is, I never take the boat out without him, and he does not allow strangers there without my presence. So I suggest that if you can afford a boat, you can afford a medium to large sized dog, complete with testes and trained to be at home in the vessel. Alarms make noise, dogs make more noise and given a good reason, also draw blood... If you were a thief, which would you fear more? With a good dog watching over your boat, no one is gettin in, no one is going to hitch it up, and no one is going to attempt it without some tissue loss. You can even trust your children to a good dog more reliably than most babysitters. Something to think about.

Re: Some SOB stole my trolling motor & poles/ reels tackel box!
This alarm isnt heard by the thief. The alarm goes off inside your house,so that you hear it and not them. Thus, you can call the police or you
can confront them if you want. Dogs are nice  but then remember a thief can hurt your dog. Plus there is a cost of maintence and responsibility for the dog, vet bills etc.

Re: Some SOB stole my trolling motor & poles/ reels tackel box!
Sorry for your loss. It never is a good feeling when someone takes something of yours. You always ask yourself what could I have done to prevent the loss.
I noticed a number of postings about trolling motors being stolen. I always wonder if the motor was locked on. What's the best way to secure that kicker to the boat? Mine's locked on and there is a security light next to the boat. Do I need to do more?
We all need to keep an eye out, not only for our own stuff but that which belongs to others.

Re: Some SOB stole my trolling motor & poles/ reels tackel box!
From what I'm reading I would say yes if your boat is not kept indoors.
I see the need for a better locking system.
I will ask my engineer buddy for some ideas.

Re: Some SOB stole my trolling motor & poles/ reels tackel box!
and the rest of the story;
Small fry is my brother, we have been talking almost daily since he started looking for anew boat.
I called him last night to ask about the insurance coverage for the items stolen. He said that he had heard back from the Ins. co.. They told him that the boat equipment was going to be covered under the boat policy and the fishing gear under the homeowners policy. Thats $500 deductible for each policy. He said he's going to try to get them to see the light, but who knows.
Looks like he's done fishing for awhile, unless we can find him some gear and a trolling motor at giveaway prices
