Default Salem Springers

I have lived in Salem all my life but have fished everywhere but downtown Salem. The dang fish fly right through my back yard but I have ignored this great oppertunity.PLEASE.....somebody tell me how, what & where to fish. K-15's, backbounce prawns- behind Minto, on top of the island...what????
I'm getting really tired of fighting the Portland crowd.
Please help a fellow fisherman

Fish-on John,
If you have a boat and a depth finder i would suggest that you do the following. Search the river and find a depth of 3 to 7 feet that has enough current to make a rainbow spinner work real well. Anchor up and go to catching fish. Use the amount of lead on a dropper to get the spinner out in back of the boat and work it back about 20-30 feet. Then set back and relax and let them come. It will happen if you get in the right spot with the right conditions. Good Luck

Dont think you wont be fighting crowds up here. From what I saw on saturday getting to the ramp at 0430 aint early enough. Lots of camping going on.

RJ, with the nubmer of fish in the river the fishing should be better. I had hoped to do better as well. 17lb'er on Sat, lost one on Sun.

As Krystalflash posted elsewhere, we anchored as mentioned above, but you should also have the bank somewhere about 20 feet away (or less). They seem to like running along the bank in 3 to 8 feet of water. A good current, a 30" dropper with one or two onces of lead, and a K-14 flatfish, Spinner, prawns, or spin-n-glow should do the trick. Oh yes, a good comfortable spot on the boat to snooze also helps. Good luck.
