My First Springer of 2004!
Well it looks like I won Nanooks Carrot Poll... what do I win? It was 5-Cents in the MC with herring!
This was our first real springer trip of the year. Got up early and met Cracker Joe, got to the ramp before day light and launched before the sun was up. We ran the short distance to the start of our troll and dropped them down. The baits had not been in the water for 5 minutes when Cracker Joe got his 2nd bite of the year without sticking I guess he is living up to his name.
A few more hours pass by and we notice this audience watching the trolling show...
you cant tell from the pic but there are 3 bald eagles and two golden eagles... this must be good luck. Sure enough my rod takes a mighty dive and the drag starts singing that sweet song! It's the SHABAMALAM I have been waiting to see for way too long!
After a nice 5 minute tussle this guy decided to get out of the river and into my belly!
I got him on a down current troll with a green label whole herring in 12.5 feet of water. We were 1 minute from pulling up and leaving. We were cleaning the boat up, putting stuff away and I was up front turning the seats around to face front. I looked up at the fish find and saw two perfect arches right on the bottom. I jumped back to my poll dropped the bait down to the bottom then turned back around to finish up. As I got to the helm Cracker Joe started yelling fish on! It's nice when those arches actually are fish!
We tried anchoring up for a while when we fired up the BBQ and had some sausages but never had a bite on the Kwiks.
We heard of 8 fish caught and saw a couple of others. They are definitely out there so go get some!

You had me worried. I thought maybe you lost you MOJO. Way to go.
Is that the first Salmonoid blood in the new boat?
See ya on the river soon.

Re: My First Springer of 2004!
Shane, it was'nt all your fishing talent that put the fish in the boat as much as it was the boat graphic, the spinger saw that and just had to get a closer look  Nice job, the fish is a beauty.
After this first fish, the springer flood gates are open now.

Re: My First Springer of 2004!
Shane,
Nice fish! I thought since I have read and learned from many of your posts I would suggest that perhaps all of the eagles you saw in the tree are Bald Eagles. The ones that you are calling Goldens are more than likely immature balds as it takes in the neighborhood of five to seven years to get the mature feathering on the head. The immature bald will look as if it is Golden while the Golden is distinctive in that it has white on the upper tail feathers.
(you teach me how to rig up a salmon setup and I teach you eagles)............ha.
Again, nice fish!
Fishrunner.

Re: My First Springer of 2004!
Why do you guys have to post, or hint at something sexual all the time?
My kids used to do that but they are 15 and 16 now, and they grew out of it.
If it's not sexual, then why do you want people to think it is?
I'm just not certain why people get stuck at a certain level of maturity and can't progress.
I heard the real story behind carrot milk, and it was like something that my kids would giggle at at 10.
