Finally, my first Willamette Springer.
Went out to the Willamette after church Sunday in search of the evasive Willamette Springer. Yes, I said a few prayers before I went. Backtrolled near the garbage hole with Pops for awhile. No luck. Someone decided to leave so We moved in.
I tried a little bit of everything with no luck. The boats in the center area were doing pretty well. I was trying some kwikfish and decide to down scale from a 15 to a 14. Five minutes latter, Bammmmmmm! Springer on, and it was a beauty. Digital scaled at 26.3lbs. I am pumped. Springer fishin....puhhhhh....
Oh yeah, contrary to popular belief, the folks there Sunday night were very nice.
Ok, here is the zipperlip location. Willamette River, Garbage hole, Salmon rod, K-14 fickled pickle with sardine wrap (no scent), streachy thread, 6pm, banana in the boat, pepsi to drink, 17' of water, 25lb anchor, 30# test, 40# leader, sunshine, good water clarity, lemon joy, well..........you get the picture

Re: Finally, my first Willamette Springer.
Congrats CATCH AND EAT. You know you could not have done it without the banana in the boat.

Re: Finally, my first Willamette Springer.
Bernie: congradulations on your catch. Glad you got a big one.
Not bad for a PB.... and on a Sunday no less...just goes to show you can't catch a fish if you are sitting in the wrong church...
Happy for you...

Re: Finally, my first Willamette Springer.
1. The Issue
The large revenues of the Costa Rican banana industry have come at the expense of one of the world's most biologically diverse rain forests. Recently, the EU installed a quota system for bananas predominantly from Latin America. The Costa Rican banana industry has been hit hard and the delicate balance between business and environmental protection has been affected. There have been many protests to bring an end to the EU banana quota system, including protests to the GATT. The US government is now at the forefront of forging negotiations in the trade dispute because US fruit conglomerates are suffering, whereas the European fruit counterparts are benefitting. The resolution, if any, of the greater international dispute over world banana trade will inevitably have an effect on ecological/banana industry relationship in Costa Rica.

Re: Finally, my first Willamette Springer.
******:
Oh, no! "OK" bananas and "NOT OK" bananas? Approved banana sources vs. unapproved banana sources? Wild bananas vs. hatchery bananas?
Maybe the powers that be could do something to designate bananas from approved, renewable sources -- like clipping part of the stem off. Then we consumers would know whether Safeway was selling wild or plantation bananas. Of course, we'd have to buy a banana harvest tag and indicate which kind we bought, until we reached the maximum allowable harvest. And then we'd all have to switch over to shopping for mangoes, perhaps?
I'm fond of catch and release logging too.

Re: Finally, my first Willamette Springer.
You're right about one thing...Go the the Wilamette targeting salmon, 9 times out of 10, you won't get any. But plan on something else, red meat may grace your boat. I've tried too many times and the only Willamette salmon to date, came to me using a teeny tiny dick nite on 8lb test while fishing for shad last year. Maybe if I use marshmallows I'll find a peeler.

Re: Finally, my first Willamette Springer.
A couple of weeks ago I anchored in the hogline at the mouth of the clack. My buddy had three takedowns, but no hook ups. I was switching between plugs and bait. Finally landed my first springer of the year on a pink tiger spin glo and pink prawn. A big 27lb crome native that I had to let go. Nice big fish, but had to give it back . :depressed: I guess the fish gods were just teasing me. Though I did get paid tonight. I landed a nice crome 10lb summer on the sandy tonight. About time!!
