I sure am glad the sturgeon fishing was great today cause the salmon fishing stunk to put it lightly. I fished out of Cathedral Park and heard of a few fish caught but for the amount of rods fishing, it was SLOW. I got tired of watching paint dry and hit some of my favorite spots for sturgies. We ended up with 3 keepers and around 30 shakers for a couple hours of soaking smelt. Man it was great catching instead of trolling and waiting for a change. Oh well, give it a couple of months and we can hop the bar and really do some Salmon fishing

I got a boat invite and we launched out of Cathedral today and fished out in the Columbia below the Willamette on the Washington side (w/ about 50-100 other boats ....). The bite was at the top of the tide this morning - around 7:00 - 8:00 am and then just tapered off to nothing by Noon. I hooked my first Springer today - but it came unbuttoned. That is all the action we had. Checker at the ramp said about one out of every two boats reported a fish. Beautiful day today!
