Today I finally made my very first springer trip to the Columbia. Beaches of Sauvie Island.
I left work early and got to the river about 2:30. The report, "Slowest we've ever seen it".
It rained, it rained harder, I cut my thumb, the guys I was fishing with left, it rained even harder. My hands got so wet I had a hard time casting out more than 35 yards.
Then at 6:30, ding ding, pole goes down. After about 15 minutes of fight, my very first springer. 1 for 1. A roughly mid 20lb native. That's the estimate from another fisherman there at the beach.
After that I wasn't quite as cold, hardly noticed being wet and forgot about my sore thumb until I got home. Wow what a day. That's why I payed for a harvest tag, worth every penny, just hope I actually get to fill in some of the blanks.
