Re: How far do springers travel per day?
Hey Jesse,
I am going to go out this weekend for the first trip of the year. Been trying to get all my honey-doo's out of the way
Maybe we'll see you out there. From what Short Hop is saying the fish can go some 20+ miles a day, so the nets shouldn't be to bad for you!

Re: How far do springers travel per day?
I am going to troll the W on Saturday afternoon/evening and troll the lower MC on Sunday morning until the tide starts going out. Then I am going to tie up to my piling throughout the outgoing. I will fish my place from last year starting spring break. I am planning on fishing Sat., Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. (20th-27th) I hope that the nets are out by then. If you are going to be out any of those days come anchor up next to me. You know where I will be. The tides are perfect, daylight on at the start of the week and the middle of the day for the end of the week.

Re: How far do springers travel per day?
I caught a springer above Milwaukie several years ago that still had sea lice on it. I'm told they only last a few days in fresh water. Anybody know how long sea lice can live in the fresh?

We had a springer at the mouth of the Wind early last season with several c-lice on her She was hot too!!! I've been told the lice only last a few days, but I don't know if they can survive in the tidal affected water (estuary)longer???

Well, while I can't answer your answer definitly..I will say the nets don't get 'em all, and if you're not out there...you sure as "you know what" won't be catching any that get through.

Re: How far do springers travel per day?
I have been told it takes them 10 days to swim from Willamette falls to the South Santiam but that was just hear say. I prefer them to swim the thirty feet from the end of my line to the bottom of my net

Idaho Fish and Game estimate springers travel 20 to 30 miles per day while in the Columbia River.

Re: How far do springers travel per day?
There is a spot I fish where it is common to see a wave of fish move up the river. You see fish caught about 1/2 mile below, and then 20-30 minutes later, our line gets bit. Making the questionable assumption that these are in fact the same wave of fish, I reach the assumption that fish are moving up at about 1 mile per hour. If they move constantly that would be about 24 miles a day, which seems to fit the other estimates.

How far do springers travel per day?
How far do springers travel per day? I was wondering because if the nets are in Thursday until Friday morning then how low would you have to fish for the nets to not effect fishing?
By having the nets in how much do you think it effects you fish catching opportunity. 50% of the fish to catch? 20%?
What do you think?

Re: How far do springers travel per day?
I caught a springer in the channel by Coon Is. that had a test netting tag in its back. I called ODFW and told them the number on the tag and they said that fished had been released on thursday in Youngs Bay and I caught it on the next Sunday. Thats gotta be close to 70 miles in 3 days.

Re: How far do springers travel per day?
What's up Tim? After last year's success on springers I can't just quit. Did you ever catch any? I ended up catching about 20 after asking questions and learning from posts on here. Have you guys been out yet?
