Default thermostat kit for Merc. trolling motor

I read in the manual that there is a thermostat kit for my 8 hp Merc. I was wondering if this would improve my idling (low speed trolling) in cold water. Mine wants to load up or die and it seems worse in colder water. What is your experience? How hard to install?

The newer 2 strokes by Merc have this installed when you buy them. I just replaced mine after 4 years of saltwater use.

maybe I'm missing something here. I've got a 93 9.9 two stroke and I set it up to run a hot box. however the water comming out was river temp. when the motor warmed up enough to open the thermostst the water would warm slightly then the thermostat closes and the water runs river temp again. making the box box useless.I'm I missing something? if so please in form me as to how stupid I may appear to be on the outside.

its a stainless collection box mounted on the transom. nothing like washing off your hands with a warm cloth or put a can of ready to eat soup in it. great idea if your tell tail runs hot.

letstroll, the kit should help with warm up.
I ran the same 8hp merc as you from '93-'97 and had the kit in mine from new as I have a hot box
on my boat. But it helps warm it better also.
In '97 I bought a new 9.9 hp merc four stroke had stat kit installed on it for the hot box, and I'm sure it helps with warm up, as 4 strokes are more cold blooded.
Boy the water in the 4 stroke runs hotter than the 8 hp.......like 105 verses 160.....
