You might want to try North West Butcher Supply in Clackamas. I stumbled accross them today, they have the best filet knives I have ever seen and only $25, last filet knife I will ever need. Swiss made sharp as all get out, commercial guys use them for 4000lbs of salmon before a resharpening or touching them with a steel. They had some real good home user vaccuum sealers. If you need knifes and want them to last I suggest giving them a call.

Hey fish_on, does that knife come with a spoon on the handle? Gerber made the best one I've ever seen. It had an 8 inch blade with a stone like composite handle which formed a spoon on the other end. It came with a leather sheath. They stopped making them for some reason, probably something to do with cost and marketing, but man what a knife that was! I wish I could find one now.

Will you guys please quit bringing up the Gerber Coho? I had one until several years ago but cannot find it. I am afraid it got thrown out with the carcass. Still pulling my hair out over that one!

Thanks to all. I just ordered the Dexter Russell knife from Sportco. Nice looking knife, and inexpensive. I hope it will take an edge. If not I'll try one of the more expensive models.

I like the old wood handled rapalla... bought one in 1986 in the San Juans... still using it.. at least, I was... until my fishing partner dropped it over the back of the boat... it was still sharp as a razor... admittedly it didn't get as much use on Salmon down here, but it sure got its share up there... (no spoon tho) watch for that one out on the beaches along with my black sea sock from fishermans supply.. got thrown over with no rope... worked well...

the only bad thing is the shipping/Handling is more than the knife. It costs 7.50 to get a 7.00 knife delivered.

You can order 7-8 knives before the shipping goes up, so it is $$ based... I hate that.
