Default anchor brackets

Just a question, what is it about the Motion Marine anchor bracket that people don't like. I have heard that the ball and retrival devise won't go through it but it appears that the rollor on the end is big enough I am going to put somthing on the front of my boat but the cost of the big water is a bit of a shock compared to the Motion Marine. I have read the archives but nobody really explans the difference.

I have a MM anchor bracket on my 19' boat and I can't complain. Not sure what you are referring to by 'the ball and retrieval device won't go through it'. The rope, chain, etc go over the roller, not through it.

I assume you are referring to boats other than drift boats, yes?

The only complaint I had with the M/M nest was the fact the rope would fray when I pulled it in. This is what I did to solve the problem. Works real well now with 2 rollers instead of one even if the angle of the rope is back it won't fray.

I just put a Big Water on mine. It works great .It has higher sides on it than the MM so it helps keep the anchor from falling off to the side and possibly hitting the boat When pulling the anchor the rope stays in the cradle so you don't have to tie it off elsewhere.

O.K. I've seen these things but none up close. Is there some kind of keeper or strap or something that keeps the anchor nested while underway or on the road? I'd love to get one. How much? And where's the best place to get one?
Thanks

Phishin Phool
There is a rubber almost like they used for coil spring spacers that the top of the shank fits in. I also put in a eye bolt and run a clip from it to the chain on the anchor. Can't go any where at all now. You ever around Salem take a look.

Just tested my new anchor nest I got from North River. What a differance,it's like night and day,no more dragging the chain, anchor and bouy over the side.

Iseefish - where did you come up with the materials? I have been unable to find aluminum channel stock in a big enough size.

I saw a really neat system made by River Hawk. It came with the anchor. The neat thing was a pin that secured the anchor, no bungies nescassary. Has anyone used this system?

Gr8waves, I went to a local metal fabrication business and purchased 3/16" aluminum sheet stock cut to aprox. 1'x2' then bent to my specs. Cost me about $18. Total cost for anchor nest was around $60.
