Here are some pics of my first attempt at grinding my own deer meat. The process went
very well, and I just wanted to share my experience. I purchased a 1hp Weston grinder off the internet, (cabelas grinders were not on sale at the time) for around 400 bucks. It seems very similar to the cabelas unit and carries a 3 yr warranty v.s. a 5 yr. All I can say is HOLY COW!! This is a totally amazing unit! It literally ground up the venison as fast as I could feed it into the machine, and I have never been more impressed with the performance of an item purchased. I processed 23#'s of deer with 6#'s of Bacon. This made for a total of 29#'s processed in about 4 minutes!! This happened to be a bruiser of a buck (7yrs old according to the tooth data) so I decided to go with a roughly 20% bacon content. The bacon I used was 1 dollar a pound at grocery outlet and had a very very high fat content. The deer burgers turned out nice and sticky and tasted excellent! Last night my brother even said it was one of the best burgers he had ever had! We made some deer chilli for dinner tonight which was great as well.
