Good Question ******. I've got tomorrow slated as a fish blood day, but am up in the air as to where to go. What about OC? Anyone been there lately?

The spill has started. Flow over Bonneville, combined power and spill. March 17th it was 124,000 CFS.

Here's the numbers for the last few days
13th 230,000 CFS
14th 250,000
15th 272,000
16th 345,000

If you go, plan on the water being about 18 feet higher than is was 1.5 weeks ago.

I talked w/ a guy bonneville who said flows are decreasing daily.Tomorrow will be at 267, friday at 285, and today is 338. Not much lower, but it may help.

Went to OC on Saturday but only saw two landed and both were natives. It is very slow so I think you have better luck in the Bonneville area. I was fishing under the I-205 bridge for a couple of hours.

good luck

I"m thinking about takeing my daughter out sat. if the river clears up.I don't have much hope for it tho,I saw some huge trees and rootballs comeing thru today. You'll have to put a bell on your pole and no napping to watch out for debris comeing at you.It still looked pretty hazerdous out there. What to do what to do

Rick, my dad fished off Bradford Island yesterday morning. Still chocolate milk. Said there were only about a dozen fishers there at the time. Flow was rippen and rollin. He saw 2 fish caught and had one take down himself.

I'd wait until the weekend. Right now I am thinking either clackamas or trout.

Went sturgeon fishing below Bonneville yesterday, LOTS and LOTS of water! There were a few large chunks of debris but all in all not that bad. Definitely was looking over my shoulder all day though. Stayed out of the main flow.

Did a bit of looking around between the shad rack and Skamania island, tried several spots in between, ended up having the most success around Horsetail falls. Typical scenario: 20 - 30 Dinks to 1 keeper ratio. One of the guys drug home a nice 44" chubby fish, landed & released another 4 legals (just) plus several close calls. The bonus fish was a 9'+ oversize. Neither of the guys I was with had experienced the awe of the oversize before so that made the day!

As far as salmon goes, saw quite a few rolling in the calm water off Horsetail falls - Oregon side - as did the Netters. They made half a dozen sets, each time pulling their net across behind us about 50' behind the boat. Seemed as though were we in their spot and messing with their program, Ooops! Couldn't tell how well they were doing though. There were three boats fishing the lower end of the shad rack around noon, didn't bother them to find out how it was going. Water was 48 degrees and very brown. There weren't very many rigs in the fishery lot when we put in about 7 and we only saw 5 other boats sturgeon fishing. Not much pressure. Sorry I can't be more helpful on the springer report, they seem to hate me (dozen trips this year, 2 nates c&r), so I'm leaving them alone so my presence doesn't ruin it for the rest of you!

Good luck all.

Netters? Tell us more about the nets Aye Fish. I thought they were done netting  for the springer season. Maybe they were those test-netters that were tagging fish to see how effective the tooth-tangle nets were working.

About those nets....
Like I said, they made at least a half dozen sets in the soft water off horsetail falls. They also did a couple across the river and a little downstream. I didn't time 'em but they had to have been at it for at least 3 hours. One set they came in so close to the back of the boat I had to wait for them to drift down out of the way far enough before I could toss my bait. One of the guys I was with asked how long a season they had, to which the net boys replied that they had until the middle of May. That left me with the impression that they were fishing for profit, not research.

Unfortunately the Captain of the boat I was a guest on has not seen fit to include binoculars as part of his essential boat equiptment, so I couln't spy on them as they pulled in the net. Have no idea how many fish they were getting. We were the only boat out there for quite a while, as soon as we got some company ( 2 other boats ) sturgeon fishing, the netters called it a day and went away.

So that's pretty much all I saw. I was kind of suprised to see them out there at all because I was under the impression the commercial season was over for now and that they were slated to get another season in May. I'm sure I got that impression from reading posts on the board here regarding net seasons. Now I'm just not sure what the real deal is.
