Default Anchor Rope Mesh Bag (Pics)

After the thread about anchoring in the Columbia, I received a few emails asking for explanation/pics about how I set up my mesh bag for holding rope. I'm sure there's tons of people who do it similarly, but I hope someone benefits from these pics. First, I store my rocker anchor in a milk crate on top of the rope and chain. If you have a anchor roller, or anchor hold, a five gallon bucket with holes in the bottom works great, and can double as a spare sea anchor. With the rope in the bag I lay it out over the crate for easy letting out, and putting back in (imagine anchor isn't on top of rope and chain)

Once the anchor is out, I cinch up the bag. I take the rope that is coming from the cleat where it is tied off to the bag, and throw a loop in it

I then pull both of those "wings" back around the rope, like so...

Finally, I take a clip, which has been previously tied with about a foot long piece of cord to the anchor bag (just weave it through the mesh a few times, and around the cinch cord) anyway, pass the clip through the two loops and tighten the rope. I'm sure this little knot has a name, but I just taught it to myself, so I don't know!

Now the rope is in the bag, and when you toss it over to release no matter how hard the current tugs on it, the bag is staying right where you left it, and the rope in it. You might also add some sort of flotation in the bag, small inflated ball, bouy, etc, or tie a crab pot bouy and tag line onto the bag, but, we've never had any problem picking the bag back up as is! Hope this helps someone. Good luck and tight lines to all!

TOC...great idea. I have been tinkering with this myself and was getting pretty close. I was recently made aware of a commercially available system that is heavy duty mesh, has quick release buckles for closing the bag and a 6" cleat for tying off line. I still have the link if anyone is interested, PM me.

Note: I do not work for this company and have yet to purchase the product. It's just the closest I have seen to the fitting the bill.

I own the bag that Lured In is talking about. It is a very nice piece of work. I would recommend it anyone wanting a rope bag.

p.m. me if you want the link

I do not have any relationship to the maker, just think that he has put together a well thought out product.

I picked up a cool anchor bag that this guy around town makes. It works great and is easy to use. You can buy them at great american tackle in Clackamas. No mess , great for storage, I think it goes for around $30-$35. It sounds like the same bag you guys are talking about. Heavy mesh, with buckles and a rope "tie-off"

A mesh dive bag works great. I bought one for $12 on eBay. They have a wire frame at the mouth similar to a coin purse which make geting the rope in the bag a lot easier. Use a carabiner on handle to wrap your main line around and then secure your tag line to the bag.

Hey Time Off. Does that bow look familiar?

TOFC, How do you like the boat so far?

I have fished in it with Time Off a number of times. I got my first springer in it. I thought it worked pretty good. I hope it works out great for you.

Conspiracy- Love it! Dad's the legal owner, but I'm the one who spoils her. Nothing like having something new to tinker with. Re-installed rail mount fish-ons on back rail, installed flush mounts on the side (personal preference) we can now fish 7 rods! I also added rocket launchers and bought a new rocker anchor for her! Put in the big propane tank under the dash, with a five foot hose to the heater! It's gonna be a fish killing machine. I couldn't be happier. Team Helly Hanson, coming soon to waters near you...

An excellent inexpensive anchor rope bag is a military mesh laundry bag. You can buy them at military surplus stores for around $3.00. They usually include the draw string and cinch.
