I need a top for my open style hewscraft and was wondering where to go. I was originaly going to go to Bentlys, but changed my mind due to a bad report on this b.b. Does anyone have any ideas? I went through the achrives to try and find it but didn't see it.

Re: Boat tops.
There is a guy in Tigard that makes very good tops, he is not the cheapest or the most expensive his work is #1 I just can't think of his name.

Re: Boat tops.
I had mine made by a Guy named Tony, Tony's Tops I believe it is, I am very happy with it and the price is comparable with other quotes that I got, he is in Tigard off of Hall I can probably dig his number out if you need it.

Re: Boat tops.
I,m taking my boat in at the end of the month to Jerry's Tops. Found his ad in the nickel ads. Did some research and heard nothing but good things about his work and prices. He's out in Boring.

Re: Boat tops.
I went to Bentley's to get my boat top.
What a joke!
It wasn't that long till the thing was coming apart.
How embarresing, you take people out for a day on the water, and if they bump the stupid top the wrong way it pops out of its socket.
Causing it to be sticking out 6 inches over the side of the boat.
I WONT BE GOING BACK THERE IN THE FUTURE!

Re: Boat tops.
Say what you want about Bentley's, but they did an excellent job with my top. THere are two sides to every story.
I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Re: Boat tops.
I got my top made at NW Boat Tops in Sherwood. Jeff Jackson owner. 503-925-8788. He did a great job for my 19ft. SuperVee. He used to make tops for Stevens but has his own business now.

Re: Boat tops.
I'm also looking for a good top for my Alumaweld Super Vee. I've seen tops with full curtains, windows, and a see through front. Anyone know where I could find one?
On another note...I need a trailerable storage cover. Please help me out. No one here in Idaho is close to reasonable pricewise, at least that I've found.
Thanks,

Re: Boat tops.
I had Jeff @ NW Boat Tops make a back cover for my NW Jet. I felt he did a great job, completed it on time and his price was fare. I also had him do a repair on the drop curtain ~ He came to my house and picked it up, fixed it and had it back to me that day. In contrast, I had a top and mooring cover made for my Willie Preditor a few years back at Tony's. The guy was not Tony and said he had bought the biz from him. The work was OK. I was not impressed by the stiching, lots of zig~zags.

Re: Boat tops.
My vote is also for Jeff @ NW boat tops. He made a fishermans top for my alumaweld sled. Excellent workmanship and a fair price. I even requested some custom changes that was no problem for him. Also had a great turn around time. (Very Happy with the top)

Re: Boat tops.
Bently's has been great providing warranty service on my top. I've used it on 1/3 of my trips over the last 14 months. Unfortunatly I've made the trip down there to get things fixed on it 5 times now! They seem like nice folks down there, but how tough can it be to crimp the end fittings on the tubes right?...scratched boat... or crimp the snaps on right?

Go see Jerry in Boring!...U'll get a better product and at a lower price. He did Pilar's boat and mine last year, and we are both very pleased. I'll email you the particulars and a sample of his work.

Re: Boat tops.
Bentley's made mine, excellent work. That was "several" years ago, it seems like maybe they have developed some problems since then. Sure a lot of dis-satisfied customers on the Internet!

Re: Boat tops.
Thanks for all the info guys, looks like I have a few calls to make. Sounds like Jerrys and N.W. tops seemed to have the consensus. I still find Bentlys a little intriguing due to the fact that they use vinyl for material which is treatable, maybe that will add life to the top. There is always the shrink factor. :depressed: Please keep the suggestions coming Mike

Re: Boat tops.
Jerry in Boring is your man. He has made a tonneau, top, aft and side curtains for me. I asked him to raise and extend the top so my buddies don't get wet. He did so without costing me more. EXCELLANT job, GREAT price and FAST too!!!!!!!!! I have sent many to him and they always leave satisfied. Use the Sunbrella, it will last longer than vinyl.

Re: Boat tops.
NW Boat Tops did an excellent job for me also. Jeff removed the 2year old Sunbrella top on my Weldcraft and created a tough as nails top made out of Top Gun. He also re-enforced the top frame so that I can travel down the road now.
I have recommended him several times to friends and all of them are happy as well. He recently did a fisherman’s top on my buddies 21 open Maxweld. Jeff asked the questions and made recommendations to fit the needs of the customer.

Re: Boat tops.
I've known several people who have gotten excellent quality work from Tony's. Highly regarded, highly recommended.

Re: Boat tops.
Well now I have broadened my search to 3. Jerry's, Tony's, and NW boat tops. Can someone tell me what Top Gun material is like? Is it better than vinyl? Will it shrink overtime? Thanks again for the info. Keep it coming if anybody else has anymore ideas. Hey get bent, did I see you on TV? Nice job on the spinners. I'd like to have you make me some someday. Mike
