Trebble hooks or regular hooks on spin n glos
My buddies and I haven't landed a keeper yet this spring
What is the best hook and size to use?
I have tried squid skirts too and no luck. I think I had one niblling until a second later a sealion poped up scared all the fish away

Re: Trebble hooks or regular hooks on spin n glos
basically, you're asking whether having more points will help you hook up. it may. the problem is that the gap between the point and the shank is much smaller on a treble than a single hook and you're more likely to lose what you do hook up. standard single hooks are bent through the shank to cause it to turn in the fish's mouth and bring the point into contact with the jaw. you'll be much less likely to lose a fish hooked on a single point than on a treble.
more hookups or a greater percentage of fish landed, your decision.

Re: Trebble hooks or regular hooks on spin n glos
I've been using 4/0 Gami's. So I tend to go a bit on the larger end of things, though this is smaller than the 6/0-5/0 rig I use for fall salmon in the bays. I think the larger hook might get around the jaw easier. I believe a real sharp single hook results in more frequent solid hookups. Haven't tried the Owner hooks yet.

I agree with Oakie on the spreader issue. I started out with using 3-way barrel swivels on my plunking setups, but after tangle frequency I am a convert to small spreaders. I'll probably put all this to the test a few times over the next few weeks banking it on the lower Columbia.

Re: Trebble hooks or regular hooks on spin n glos
well you may also want to try a double hook set-up
i use 2 2/0 or 3/0 single hooks tied about 1 1/2" too 2" apart solid i use this both to hold my prawns and even use it with out bait
like was said before put a couple beads or small corkies between you spin-glo and hook. it seems to help with action as well as with hook-ups
also remember if you use more than one set up you can only have a MAX of 3 hooks
just my 2 cents Jon

Re: Trebble hooks or regular hooks on spin n glos
I have been running a spin-n-glow with Mustad triples I have also been putting 3 or 4 beads between the spin-n-glow and the hook. Then I put on a prawn/sandshrimp with a couple rubberbands to hold it over two of the three hooks. So far I have hooked up three steelhead and have yet to loose one.
The biggest thing to make sure is that your hooks are sharp. I also change my leader after a hook up since you might rub it on the rocks and then if may become week.
Just my .02 cents. It has worked for me.

Re: Trebble hooks or regular hooks on spin n glos
May I suggest a #2 spin-n-glow with a bead between it and the hook, so it spins freely. I also use a #2/0 or #3/0 hook; no treble hook.
No bait either. This is the usual plunking set up without any weight advice as that depends on the current where you are fishing. Spreaders work great on keeping your leader seperate from your lead line.

Re: Trebble hooks or regular hooks on spin n glos
Hi all,
Thanks for all the replys. It sounds like I have doing all the right stuff. I have been using #1 - 3 hooks. The good ones. I have used assorted spin n glo colors and sizes, Some black wings, some Mylar some white. I guess our timeing has just been off.
