Default Bank springer help

I have seen a couple reports about people using kwikfish from the bank, can someone give me a clue on how to rig this. I assume you slide it down your mainline on a snap swivle, how do you get it to stop? Also can I fish a spin-n-glo under it and be legal or will I have to switch the trebles off the k-fish to singles? Thanks for any help.

I can answer on of your questions, I think. A treble hook counts as 1 hook.

I washington You can use 3 hooks. and only one barbless for sturgeon. I have seen some people slide a Kiwk fish down their line. I think they had a swivel and a bead about 2' above their bottom setup to stop the kwik fish from sliding all of the way down to their bottom setup. I hope that helps some .....Ross

Tie a rubber band/bobber stop so the bead rests on that to hold the sliding kwikfish set up where you want it.

I like to use a barrel swivel tied about 2 feet above the spreader. I use a small corkie above the barrel swivel for a bumber when you slide down the kwikie.

you can cast out with the kwikie on a 3 way swivel 2 ft above the spreader but I like knowing I'm not tangled up. thats the main reason I like to slide my plug down the mainline after casting.

Steelie Ben,
I don't use any stop at all.
The current creates an arc in the line and the kwickie will rest in the middle of the arc once the current grabs ahold of it and it stays in place. I use a 6 foot leader on the kwikie which allows the kwikie to run about 3 feet below surface, and I try to cast upstream so the lead and lower set up are fishing straight out in front of me.
The hard part is seting the hook...make sure its a monster hookset againts the current and away from the fish.
I use an 11 foot rod rated to 10oz's of lead and 20 to 50 for the line and I use all eleven feet when setting the hook with this method.
I also use 10 to 12 ounces of lead to ensure it will not drift with the current..Remember that springers are only 60 feet out or less and running in 8 to 18 feet of water..I do best in 8 feet of water and fish an area that has an even flat yet lots of current.

Thanks for the tips, I will put them to good use in the next month or so. Fshklr, you get may takes on your plug that close to the surface? Also, how do you keep your bottom rig from fouling your plug, are you using a short leader for your bottom rig? Sorry for all the questions but I really don't want to get out there and tangle a bunch of line, mine or bank mates. Is 12oz of lead required when throwing this combo or can I get away with less, I would like to use the Kenia Killer and really don't want to break out the sturgeon rod but if thats what it takes thats what it'll get. Again thanks for all the helpful advice, I can't get over how unselfish the members of Ifish are.

Steelie Ben,
Click on my name in my post and a screen comes up..then click "view recent posts" in right hand corner, you will see a couple posts related to bankie success from last friday and saturday..so yes I do well with kwickies from the bank  .

The reason for the 10 or 12 oz's is I am sliding a K-14 or K-15 down my line..nearly 5 to 6 inches of lure that is pulling in the current creating alot of drag..you may get by with a lighter set-up or smaller kwickie but the 14's 15's are standard.

the most imprtant factor is CURRENT..you need alot to get the kwickie to work properly and yes..springers run in 8 feet of water and will gladly rise a foot to take the kwikie..It is a rush to see your rod go off slamming towards the water and then see the nooker thrashing at the surface..FISH ON!!

As for tangleing..the weight is on a slider and is firmly on the bottom with an 8" dropper. I run a 5 foot leader on my spinglo and cast 30- 40 or 60 feet out (depends on current and how the river is ripping)...once the kwickie is slid down it rest in the belly created from the drag of the kwickie and the river current..so the kwickie stays 20 feet or better away from the other end..the only time they meet is either fish on and reeling in..I have had no problems with tangles..a wrap or 2 usually but not tangled  .

The only time I did tangle was when I hooked and landed fish..at that time with fish in hand a tangle and retie seem like a reward instead of a hassle!

Use a good quality swivel. Dude on the bank next to me found a kwiki with a bent out snap. That's gotta hurt to lose a fish like that.
