Howdy Everyone
I've been dropping on the posts from time to time and finally decided I needed to become an official member of this site. A little about myself has been requested so here goes in a nutshell: I live on the S.Coast in Coos Bay and pretty much chase anything I have a tag for with a beating heart. I'm a yougn' in a sense, but own a 21' fish rite sled and a driftboat. I've got the inn with the fishing community down here for just about everything. I've chased everything from Tuna, marlin, halibut, to salmon, and steelhead as far away as Alaska and to Southern Mexico. I often keep tabs on the fishing in the Columbia because I do love to make a couple trips a year for tight lines on hawg sturgees. Any info needed for this part of the state drop a line, bait it with beer and I guarantee I'll come through. Love the site.
Tight lines.....

Re: Howdy Everyone
Well actually the action around here is picking up also. An occassional chinookee has been hooked both on the umpqua and the rogue. I'm heading down to the rogue this weekend and can give a first hand opinion. My neighbor landed six fish in three days down there last week and the real flow should start soon. As of the umpqua a 52-lb spinger was landed last week!! I kid you not. It was officially weighed and measured. Most of the fish down here are averaging 30 lbs so far. Very large. So that's the scoop, good things to come that's for sure.
Is Bonneville picking up at all? I'm planning on being there at the end of the month for a little combo springer/sturgeon fishing. Hopefully the timing should be right.

Re: Howdy Everyone
We have been wondering about the tuna fishing down there. We know they get their first but have also heard they come in closer (currents run in closer?). We usually go out of Depoe Bay or Newport and run up to 70 miles out especially early on in the season (mid July or so). We then seem to end up around 25-30 miles later in the season if we are lucky. So what is the scoop, can you give us a distance range and time a year average to start, etc? We have discussed making a trip or two down there as trailing further may be a better trade off than boating out as far. Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

Re: Howdy Everyone
As for the tuna, it's usually around 20-30 miles here starting in late July until the end of August. We do seem to get a better weather pattern down here with cape blanco. However, I would save the gas money in traveling here. Newport seems to get the same current as we do and if you're coming a long ways I would go out of there. On the net you can find warm ocean current maps that are updated often and will show what I'm talking about from blanco north to newport. From there it seems to head out a little and by the time it hits the columbia it's a ways out again. I've got some real secrets to tuna, if you wanted a few pointers sometime. We landed 108 in six hours on one of our trips last year. Too much cleaning to have that happen again. Anyhoo, that's what I got.
