Default F4 Re-Posts

A few re-posts regarding F4 for the out-of-towners ---

This area fishes a huge number of boats of all kinds and sizes. Across from Sand Island the mouth of the Lewis River is excellent for springers, and people fish that in 12-footers, drift boats with electric motors, all sizes of prop boats, 30-footers or bigger (anchored), etc. Very productive multiple hog lines set up at this location, and good trolling is also available. Bank fishing is popular here as well.

Bachelor Island is only about a half mile upstream of Sand Island. It is on the Washington side and is a popular area for trollers, hogliners and plunkers (off the beach). There you will find many hoglines and boats of all sizes.

There is a very popular hogline area right on the Columbia side of Sand Island. This is also a very popular area for plunkers to fish off the beach. Some folks claim that the beach fishing here is better than the boat fishing.

Just upstream from Sand Island is the popular troll/plunk area at Warrior Rock off the North Unit of Sauvie Island and the mouth of the Multnomah Channel (trolling). These are on the Oregon side.

Downstream from Sand Island is the Marker 72 (Oregon) and Picket Fence (Washington) hogline and trolling areas.

All of these locations are within about a mile from Sand Island, which will be our picnic and gathering spot. There are excellent mooring spaces and toilet facilities at Sand Island.

Boat launching facilities will include St. Helens itself (a stone's throw from our party spot), Beebe's at the mouth of the Lewis, Pekin Ferry and several other places in the lower Lewis (0.5-1 mile from our party) and several other places on the Oregon side.

Also ---

"Can anyone suggest a good, clean, and most of all, secure motel in or near St Helens? It doesn't need to be fancy."

I don't know about security, but motels in the Woodland area include the Best Inn (360-225-6548), Best Western (225-1000), Hansen's Motel (225-7018), Lakeside Motel (225-8240), The Lewis River Inn (225-6257) and the Scandia Motel (225-7860).

"Also, I will bring bait with but if there is a spot for fresh, that would be Super!"

Try Fisherman's Depot, just east of Woodland on the North side of the Lewis (225-9900).

Finally, someone asked about RV parking in the area ---

The Lewis River RV Park is located right on the North Fork Lewis, and in fact is located right on one of the best springer holes in the river and only about 100 yards from two launches, one at Island Ramp (downstream) and one at the Lewis River Golf course (upstream). The golf course also has a good restaurant. Several out-of-town guides use this park. The phone number of the RV park is 360-225-9556.

There are also other RV parks in the area --- try 225-8051 and 225-2222.
