nice drift / bent hook AAAARRRRGGGGHHH!!
Smily,
Thanks for the trip. Like I said, I've never done the drift boat thing before and I'm sold. What a great way to get out and see the river, fish, and watch the scenery.
I apologize for the low blood sugar thing. Us diabetic folk can be a little funny sometimes. I was lucky and it only made me a little tired until I ate something. Coulda been worse I suppose.
I stopped at that spot you pointed out on the drive back. Nice spot! First cast, three spin n' glo's, eight corkies, two barrel swivels, two 2 oz. pyramid sinkers, three hooks, and about 25 or 30 yds. of monofil. YEEEE HAAWWWW!!! I hit the goldmine. Secodn cast, using my newly acquired 2 oz. pyramid sinker, fish on!!! As with a lot of fish stories, the fish ended up winning. My line went limp, then two good tugs. I picked up my rod and then WHAM it was down! It took about 20 yds. of line and two good tugs and then POP, it came loose. BENT HOOK ! AAARRRGGGHH!!!! It almost straightened it out.
I'm gonna hit the fishin pretty hard this week. It's time to get it on.
Thanks again for the trip. I look forward to fishin and jammin again real soon!

Find me a hook that won't ever bend and you've got a heck of a patent!
Looks like you are fresh out of hooks to buy!

Re: nice drift / bent hook AAAARRRRGGGGHHH!!
NNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Not again, PLEASE!
It was simply not the right hook (singular) for that fish on that day.
If I use 50lb tuf and steelhead hooks then its those d*mn hooks.......
If I use 8lb line and salmon hooks, then its that d*mn line.......ad naseum
Match the reel, rod, line, swivels, leader, knots and hook to the conditions, species and experience of the angler and VOILA! Fish pictures.
Otherwise the weakest link will fail. Pure physics.

Re: nice drift / bent hook AAAARRRRGGGGHHH!!
Last weekend I straightened out a 7/0 Gamakatsu on a hog sturgeon. I guess I need to switch brands. Jut kidding.
I have a question...was it one of the hooks you just recovered? I love it when I recover a "christmas present" from the river, but I always trash the hooks. I also closely examine any swivels, and trash any that are rusty (causes them to stick) or corroded. Weights, and spin-glos or corkies are normally usable, as long as they still float.
Sounds like you had a good day anyhow. Any day I get a few headshakes is a good one.

Re: nice drift / bent hook AAAARRRRGGGGHHH!!
Myxxolydyan,
It was a pleasure having you aboard on the Drift. The Low blood sugar thing was a little scary but as soon as you had something you were a completely different person. We'll make sure we pack you something the next time. If I had only knew.
So you went back and hit some fish on the head with your weight did ya? I think that was the only way your gonna get them to bite that day. We couldn't find a biter if it was sitting next to us on the bank that day. It's just the way it goes sometime.
As far as Jammin' is concerned, expect a call this week. That is, if you got the time and your not fishing!!!!

Re: nice drift / bent hook AAAARRRRGGGGHHH!!
Prime Evil, A good hook, (one that I have not seen get straightened)is Owner cutting point. Bad hook, Eagle Claw feather lite (these 1/0 hooks got straightened on a 6 lb. steelie). As far as pulling tackle gobs out of the water, Try the Dog creek hole at McIver Park. I pull a gob out with every visit. That's were I get my slinkey supply.
