Default Access for disabled

I have buddy (disabled vet) and he is just getting into flyfishing. I would like to plan a day trip somewhere and I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on where to go. I would like to keep it under a 2hrs drive from Portland. He is somewhat limited to walking over .5 mile and wading anything over shin deep. I'm also considering any lakes that would have boat rentals where we could throw some streamers. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Any of the mountain lakes would be good. Or even a float down the McKenzie as well. One of my best buddies who's wheelchair bound and I did a float down the Mac and had a blast.

Have you tried Veronia Lake. They have two fishing platforms that are wheel chair accessible. There were about 3 there a couple weeks ago.

It is stocked with Trout periodically and it has bass, catfish, blue gill and crappie.

I saw more people on the left platform. I think it is deeper on that side.

Most were trying to fish out a ways and we were catching them within 8-10 feet of the platform and edges of the lake.

There is a $4 fee

He ought to be able to get a disabled pass to fish out of a boat on the Deschutes. That is a nice deal and allows the angler to fish water noone can reach with a fly rod.

Lost Lake (Mt Hood) has boat rentals. One of the more scenic Lakes around too.
