Saga of Okie Drifter
The boat is gently rocking.
We're waiting for the bite.
Watching the rod tips bobbing,
Keeping our lines so tight.
Bev's reel screams for help.
Line streams down the river.
She tries to reel it in,
but it pulls with a mighty quiver.
All at once s sudden splash,
A huge form breaks the water.
In his mouth the fish,
A sea lion, not an otter.
A scream comes from Bev's lips,
"Drop my fish you Beast."
He dives right back down,
To eat his special feast.
The water swirls so fast,
And up he comes with a zeal.
The fish still in his mouth,
He wants that tasty meal.
Another yell from our friend,
Tells us she wants her fish back.
And if that sea lion does refuse,
She will give it a heavy whack.
He must have sensed that anger.
She was full of hell and fire.
He dropped that salmon quickly
Loosing all his eating desire.
The fish was swiftly netted,
Then brought into the boat.
Leaving the sea lion barking,
With a loud sour note.
From this mighty tale,
A legend now becomes born.
Bev will be remembered,
and also the sea lion left forlorn.
