Default 4 Springers caught at Sellwood Bridge...

My brother and I were fishing at the Sellwood Bridge, along with 20 other boats.... We saw 3 fish pulled from 10am to 2pm... with most being pulled from around 11am to 2pm... around the tidal change at 12:20pm... the last one caught was from a guy who said that was his second for the day.... he was using ghost shrimp on a mooching type rig... I have been dragging a herring around for a couple days[ and not the same one], and had no bites... I think I'm changing baits for awhile...

also... in talking to one of the fishing counters, Kevin, at the Jefferson Street Boat ramp, in Milwaukie, I was shown a spread sheet for the fish caught on the Willamette since the beginning of the year... Since I wasn't given permission to post the details/numbers.... I'll summarize my observations to say that prior to last week, maybe up to 50 fish were caught per week for the entire river.... for last week, the number jumped up to the several hundreds... where 2/3's of the reported catches were between the St. John's Island and the train tressil north of Meldrum Bar[ this area was defined as the Middle Willamette].

The Upper Willamette, south of the train tressil to Oregon City, the number caught last week was in the low hundred... but very decent numbers, althought the ratio of boat catches vs bankers was 10-to-1...

Year-to-Date... roughly about a thousand fish have been caught... with the vast majority caught last week...

What does it all mean, the numbers show the fish are coming up the river now, enmasse.... For the next couple weeks, the fishing should be good... so Good to luck to all.... after I fix my engine today, I'm back in the water tomorrow...

As long as we are talking Sellwood I will tell you what I saw this week. I start fishing at 5:30am. It was a slow week for an early morning bite.

Monday - Slept in and didnt fish

Tuesday - Decent early morning bite, 5 fish netted (left for work at 6:50) 15 - 20 boats

Wednesday - Did not see a fish caught (left for work at 7:00) 20 - 25 boats

Thursday - Saw one fish caught (left for work at 7:15) 15 - 20 boats

Friday (today) - Saw one fish caught (left for work at 7:15) 25 - 30 boats

I hope somebody finds some use with this information for your weekend plans.

I think I am headed to the Columbia for the weekend. I can only make it to the Willamette and back to work before 8am on the weekdays.

I'll "Second" what BOE said....Sellwood is as slow as I have ever seen. Usually 1-2 fish caught the last 2 days, and that's all.

However, I did speak to one of the Locals out there who lives on a House Boat nearby. He's been fishing the High Slack on into the outgoing and has seen more fish taken in the afternoon, since the tides are backwards right now.

13 counted by the F&G guy at 2pm. All early AM fish, he had seen nothing after 11am.
