Default Lower Columbia

Fished the lower river below Cathlamet this morning and saw no fish caught for five trollers working Clifton Channel. Heard of two natives released on the main channel side of the island. Upriver wind got pretty serious about 11:00 so we booked about 12:30. Gillnetters are not doing any serious damage according to one guy we talked to at the ramp. Water visibility can't be much over 2 1/2' at best. Kalama area tomorrow!

Was the tide outgoing the whole time you were trolling? Did you see anybody anchored up doing any good? Good job putting forth the effort and thanks for the report!

Trolled the entire morning outgoing tide. No one was anchored in the area on the Oregon side of the island. All the anchors I saw were on the main river channel side, near the upper end of the island. My first time there. I was impressed with the fairly uniform depth of the water in the Clifton Channel. Pretty much ideal trolling water from 8 to 14 feet. I customarily do most of my CR trolling at St. Helens, but I really liked this stretch because of the larger trolling area w/uniform water. Shallower water nearer the shore if that suits you. Trolled both herring and prawn spinners. Will hit it again next week.
