Default Kodiak Alaska....

A friend has an opportunity to go there this summer and was wondering what is running there and when are the prime months. I didn't know so i'm asking you Alaska pros. Thanks... Joe

There's alot of good Alaska fishing info on Bob's board too: http://www.piscatorialpursuits.com/

I'm a newbie and I learned a lot just looking around that site. (Mostly about the Kenai).

Joe, you did not say what area of Kodiak your friend is going to. Here are a couple of suggestions for June fishing on 2 rivers. The Karluk and the Aiyakulic rivers are awesome from june 9 through july 4th. Chinnook and Sockeye are running. Silvers in August. Steelhead are also available but not plentiful then. Skinny too. The nooks run between 15 to 45 pounds. average around 28 to 30. These fish do not tire. Uncle Bob and I can attest to this.

Halibut fishing in July and august is awesome just about anywhere.

Dolly Varden are everywhere in 20 to 30 feet of water with a point wilson jig. fish till you are tired.

Fly outs run around 200 to 300 bucks. Worth every penny.

Medi action rods and reals with 25# line works well. Try bobber and eggs in the holding areas. Eggs drifts are the main stay. you will catch everything. Best part is it is easy.

These rivers I mentioned are on the nw tip of the island.

Good luck

I'd take a rod that had 65# power pro, and use 40# leaders and 5/0 gamakatsu hooks.
Why mess around? You'll still get your butt kicked even with the heavy gear.
