Default what to buy?

I want to start bank fishing in the Columbia or the "Willie" for springers what should I look for in a rod, reel, and line? I have seen lot of posts regarding how people rig so that question should be answered. I'm looking for reasonable price and quality as this will not see much use, but I don't want it to fall apart either. Any specific recommendations on brands/model and places to purchase will be appreciated.

Hi
I would recomend going by fishermans or joes and see what they have on Sale. You can find a good bank pole for 30 - 50 bucks. I got a shakspere pole there on sale for 20 bucks. It may be a little short it is only 7' or so but it is a one piece and I seem to get out there almost as far as some of the 10' poles. I got a nice penn reel on sale for 80$.
Don't forget to get a good solid pole holder and be sure to take a hammer. I watch a guy almost lose his rig becuase he didn't put his holder in the ground far enough. He got lucky though and ended up with a nice 17# fish.

If your fishing a sand beach.. a 2 1/2 foot peice of PVC pipe w one end cut at an angle works perfectly for a pole holder
