I do wish that I could fish on the weekdays. With retention for gators being Thurs, Fri, Sa, it make the fishing pressure that much greater on the Saturday's. Thanks Wana-C, and TB for the info.

Default Multnomah Channel Sturgies

Looking for more of an out of the way sturgy fishing area. Last weekend we tried fishing on the Willy, but did not enjoy the rocking and rolling with all the tourney boats. I hear this weekend is another tourney. Not looking for any specific spots, but atleast an idea where I may find some sturgies without the boats. We did go up the MC and fish in the afternoon on Sat and found that to be very pleasant, but didn't find the fish. When people talk about the MC for sturgies are they closer to St Helens or the Willy. Any feedback would be very appreciated. We also had no current in the afternoon, does that effect the sturgy bite, or only the lay of the boat?

With only about 2 months sturgeon experience I can tell you this....The lower MC rocks! I launch out Scapoose Bay Marina and fish upstream from there. when there is no current, I turn on the kicker to reduce the swing some, but still catch fish. We have taken 8 keepers out of there and caught many, many shakers. I've seen lots of keepers caught, some quite large. As far as being out of the way...On a Saturday there will be 50-60 trucks in the parking lot. I try to fish weekdays only

Current is key most of the time while sturgeon fishing. I wouldn't think the Multnomah Channel will be the "out of the way" place to be on Saturday. There will be a ton of boats in the channel sturgeon fishing because that is where most of the keepers were taken last Saturday in the Joes Derby. Add the springer fisherman in the mix and you will have one crowded creek.

I would fish up high on the Willy if it was me...say around the Ross Island bridge
