Oh, man! Prayers for Andrew, again.
Today, before Andrew's doc appointment, I was frustrated, looking for shoes that fit my long, skinny 11 AAAA foot.
I met this woman who told me that she prays before she goes shoe shopping! I laughed.
I had no clue that I'd be praying for much more serious things, by days end.
Andrew needs our prayers. In an unrelated doc appointment, today, they found aortic insufficiency in Andrew's aorta. Just a really loud murmur. We were looking to watch this, but two months later, it appears to have gotten much worse? Two months ago, he had no murmur at all. Now, it's really loud, I guess.
I don't know what will happen next. They saved his aortic valve in surgery, hoping that it would be healthy enough. I was thankful for that. I had to have a mechanical valve and have to take coumadin, now. So thankful he didn't have to have that.
Now, we are not so sure. The worst part is not knowing.
I'm exhausted and going to bed so that I can be fresh in the morning for all this. Hope I can sleep.
Hope Roo can sleep, too!
Man, oh man.
Thank you for keeping him in your prayers. Thank you for prayers to keep Mom strong, too.
Jen

Re: Oh, man! Prayers for Andrew, again.
Thank you so much.
Here's the deal I believe to be right.
Andrew had the Tyrone procedure. I wrote to the marfan list, asking someone who may be familiar with this issue.
I believe this lady, as she has correct info, usually.
I sure hope we aren't the 5 percent.
I knew he was special, but...
Quote:
Dr. Fishbien, who is training under Dr. Miller, talked about that at the Northern CA symposium. I think the statistics he gave said that in about 5% of people who used the Tyrone David valve sparing procedure and 20% of people who used the UK procedure ended up needing a replacement surgery due to leakage. I'll see if I have notes on his lecture...I don't think he printed out copies for us though. I'm not saying that's what your son is going to need, I mean I have no idea, but that is a risk that was brought up at the lecture. Hopefully he just needs monitoring and not another surgery! Re: Oh, man! Prayers for Andrew, again.
They said a year ago, after surgery that he had a leak. (Regurg) but that it wasn't bad. Then, last appointment, (two months ago) they said it was a little worse, but no murmur.
Now, big murmur...
So. There ya go!

Re: Oh, man! Prayers for Andrew, again.
Pretty good news!
Andrew doesn't need surgery yet.
They said that he came out of the original surgery last year with mild regurgitation. (ie leaks, insufficiency)
Then, six months later, there were changes in his heart which was pretty concerning, so soon. I didn't catch on, then, that they were concerned. I wish they'd told me. (Maybe they know better? LOL)
This is when they decided he should be monitored more closely.
I thought that Andrew would be set for life with this surgery, but the surgeon said not so, really... because of the early worsening of his insufficiency. Most people are set for life, but his didn't go as well.
It will, most probably, continue to get worse. (The leaks) which is why he has to now be seen more often.
The doc wants to wait, though, until a new procedure has been approved by the FDA where they can repair the aorta through the veins. !?!?!
Anyone heard of this new procedure? That's awesome!
Hold on, Andrew! Miracles are coming!
Anyhow, thank you so much for your prayers. Thank you, God! Whew!
