I have fished Frenchmans for fall fish with some success. Is this area very productive
for springers? It seems to me most of this water is deeper than your usual springer
water. Hoping to find a more local spot ( have a boat). Anybody out there spend much
time at F-bar in the spring? Thanks.

Opposite the mouth of the Willamette river. Along the Wa. shore. I tried this yesterday with about 5 other boats. The water depth varies from 12 to 40 ft depending how far you are from shore. I dragged hardware along the 25 ft line right on the bottom. I think next time I'll use a plugged herring.

There was no action for about 10 rods fished.

In the past this area has closed early (April 1 latest) and a few fish are taken by trollers every year in late March.

I have fished that area quite a bit and have seen fish caught on the north end of frenchman's next to an fishing shack that is made of tarps and junk!! Stay as close to the bank as possible around 18 feet with an eighteen inch dropper and plugcut (green lable) herring. Troll with your dropper just dragging and bumping the bottom! That is what I am going to try because it works!(I have a friend that doesn't have a job and does it all day long!) He also runs downstream so he presents his bait to a lot more fish! He swears that the hour before and hour after and up to slack tide is the most productive times to fish!!! It sure is a bummer to be at work and not get a chance to fish!!!!!!!

Great info Coyote, could you clarify what you meant about the tides. Were you saying it's best there on either side of the high slack, or the low slack? Thanks!
