Default Trolling too fast (ideas?)

I have a four stroke 8 hp honda. The thing trolls way too fast even with two drag bags out. I am considering a new prop that is smaller with less pitch or maybe a trolling plate. I have never used a plate and I don't know anyone that has. Ideas ? or opinions please. Thanks

One other problem I am hoping that will cure itself soon is that I have this big fat skunk on my back lately. I can't catch a fish. The thing found me about 3-4 weeks ago. Maybe a bath in some tomato juice will get the stink off me! :depressed:

Sportcraft has a real nice spring loaded automatic trolling plate they have made just for them. All powder coatede steel the price is real reasonable too. You may want to get a lower pitch prop also.

When I had my Honda 8hp, I had to change the prop, and put on a trolling plate. You just can't get them to troll down like the Mercs!!!

I just bought a used Honda 8 and it will not idle down unless I shift into neutral, then back into gear. If I add power I have to repeat the process. Seems pretty slow at the idle down but I haven't tried actually trolling yet. Only fished on the hook, outgoing tide.

Sticky throttle? Ideas?

Thanks

Englund Marine sells a spring loaded plate for trolling motors.. .the one at Sportcraft sounds like the one at Englund...

Our Honda trolls down a lot better now than it use to... not sure why.. just use I guess. its a 99 ..

i had an 8 hp honda, had to change the prop and adjust the idle down, bought the prop from sportcraft marine. adjust the idle as slow as you want just make sure the green light stays on. i also bought a 2000 9.9 and it trolled to fast until i put a 4 blade prop on it, now it trolls as slow as i want.

If the waves aren't too bad, troll in reverse. Now you know why walleye fisherman install "wave whackers" on the transoms of their boats.
