Fished Wallowa Lake 5/8, 9, and 10. Stopped at Sportsman's Corral on the way through Joseph and learned of a new state record caught that morning. Fished from 4pm until 7 managed not to even get a bite.
Sunday, with a new attitude, woke up to a brisk 24 degree morning. Arrive at lake to find a bit of wind blowing just to add to the cold temperature. Fished 2 rods for 8 hours managing to only get 3 bites and no fish near the boat. The fish I hooked jumped completely out of the water twice before shaking the hooks. Watching others it appeared to be a pretty slow day for them as well. Returned to motel and sat on deck overlooking snow capped mountains consuming an adult beverage to reset attitude once
again.
Monday, start at o'dark thirty again amid warmer 32 degree temperature and no wind. Lake surface being dimpled by rising fish with the occasional big splash. Tried jigging a couple of spots for the first hour before changing to troll. Still no bites. Ran into new record holder Bob and followed him around in same area. He completed his limit by 9:00 and left. We finished up at noon with the 5 fish above. One was 19", three were all 18" and the small one was 14". All but the smallest fish hit like freight trains and really fought well in spite of the 42-43 degree water temperature.
This was my fourth trip to Wallowa Lake since 2001. During 3 of my 4 trips a new state record has been caught. Of course I have never been the lucky angler. If anyone would like to catch a record koke for a small consideration I can make an appearance and vastly improve your odds.
