My son Tyler and I decided to slip away for a day and a half of Brown Trout fishing. We loaded up the boat and camper and headed out for parts unknown. We arrived about 9 pm Friday night so we launched the boat, parked it on the shore and hit the rack. Dawn came quickly so we met it head-on and got to the business of fishing.
We caught a couple small Browns in the morning session along with some Rainbows up to 17" and a small Brookie too. We were still searching for the bigger cousins I had seen on the graph. I actually caught one of the Rainbows on the downrigger with the ball at 40 feet

It got really windy around 12:30 se we headed in for lunch and a little siesta. We came back out for the evening run and it was still pretty blustery and made controlling the boat difficult. Around 8 pm Tylers rod went off in the downrigger and he was into out first bigger fish. The wind still played havoc with the boat since I was tending the net and trying to steer at the same time. He carefully guided his fish into the net and earned himself a fat 4 lb Brown.
That would be our only fish for the evening, but it was a good one
The next morning we were back at it early and made one pass without a strike. Tyler suggested we change tactics, so we flipped a few things around and started our second pass. We hadn't gone 50 feet and my rod got slammed hard

Head shaking and drag pulling, we knew this would be a much bigger fish. We slowly worked it closer to the boat taking care not to pressure it too much. After an expert job on the net by Tyler, I had a beautiful 6 lb Brown, the biggest of our trip
I caught 2 more that morning, one being about 2 lbs, but nothing like the previous two. All said and done we caught 5 Browns, 6 Rainbows and 1 Brookie. Not bad for the first "Real" trip of the year.
On a side note, I have begun dabbling in lure painting and 9 of the 12 fish we caught fell to a Rainbow pattern that I put on some blanks I bought off the 'net.
