Springer Catchin ?'s
I'm getting ready for the upcoming season and am looking for help to improve my chances for success this year.
Questions about fishin in the Columbia. I usually fish around or below St. Helens. What are the top 10 things a guy/gal can do to increase his/her chances of catching a springer?
...Troll w/ WD 40 scented plug cut herring? (What size is preferred by those in the know?)
...If trolling herring, how much drop line to lead?
...How far off bottom should your herring be?
...Troll with Alvin's? (Which color is best?)
...If Alvin's, how much lead and drop line?
...Anchor up and drag wrapped, K14, K15's? (what color)
...Use 18" drop line to lead?
...Use 24" drop line to lead?
...Use 30" or more drop line to lead?
...Use Lemon Joy for scent?
...Use Latex gloves to mask human scent?
...Fish on outgoing tide? (Beginning or end?)
...Fish on incoming tide? ( " " )
...Fish in 12-16' of water?
...fish in 15-25' of water?
...Troll upriver or downriver?
...No banana's in the boat?
...Set the hook, or let the fish nibble away before setting it?
...don't fish the Columbia, spend time in the Channel?
...Hire a guide? (keep in mind I prefer to fish from my boat...are there guides that will accompany you on a trip in your own boat? )
Thanks for your tips and help....If you'd prefer you can just send your tips to my home e-mail address. Only caught one last year on six outings. Looking forward to a better year this year and thought this might help me through the learning curve.
