Bad line????
I've been a STREN user all my adult life, until now. I re-spooled about five weeks ago with clear/blue Stren, as I've done for over twenty years. Since then I've broken off three out of four steelhead I've hooked, with no real stress to the line. At first I chocked it up to inatension on my part, then I questioned the knot that I've been using for over a year. The third time, I was convinced it was the line.
Sat. after breaking off #3, I re-spooled with Maxima perfection. That did the trick. 'Went 2 for 3 sun. I did get broken off by one huge fish that made a monkey of me. Not the lines fault at all. The only thing I didn't like about the new line was that I couldn't see it as well. I'll deal.
So, what's your take on the situation, bad batch, change in production????? What??

Re: Bad line????
Could be a bad batch, or maybe some old stuff. I wish you better luck with the Perfexion than I had. I tried it out and won't be using it again.

Re: Bad line????
I've never been a Stren fan, Twenty years ago I used Stren clear blue for drift fishing but it's very soft and I broke off more fish then I care to remember. This last year at Buoy 10 I lost two big Chinook to broken Spider wire, a buddy ask me to try Stren extra strength, so far so good, landed some fish with no problems.

Re: Bad line????
I had been a big fan of stren magna-thin over the last 4 years, mainly because it is so spinning reel friendly. The last two spools I bought had tons of memory, worse than maxima. Maybe their quality control has recently gone to the dogs. I have been using gamikatsu g-power over the last year or so and it's been pretty good line so far.

Re: Bad line????
It's simple! Stren is not allowed in my boat.
PERIOD!
Never has been, never will be. It's Maxima for me.

Re: Bad line????
I have caught a lot of fish with Berkley Big Game in green and clear. I like the price ,I horsed in a 22.5 # Springer on 20# line this year. I have never had a fish brake off on this line yet.

Re: Bad line????
I gotta have limp line for my prefered method of fishing,( spinner, no weight, no leader, sometimes very small spinners, on a spinning reel). Maxima is great line for a revolving spool, but until Perfection, Maxima hasn't made a line that works well on a spinning reel.
Thank you all for your input.
Is Ande limp?? Is it visible??

Re: Bad line????
Ande is a decent compromise between limp and tough. The limp lines that flow smoothly off a spinning reel have vritually no abrasion resistance. The good, tough lines jump off a spinning reel into a wad of crap you don't want to have to deal with. Ande doesn't excel at either, but it's also pretty cheap and if you keep fresh line on, it behaves pretty well on a spin reel.
On baitcasters, I use Max. UG all the time. No problems.

Re: Bad line????
If you want to see the line, try Maxima Fibreglo, the pink stuff. You can see it easily, and it's strong. It's basically the same as Ultargreen, except you can see it well in dim light. I use it for all my backtrolling rods.
