Default New, Multnomah Channel / St. Helens Reports

Just to get this thread started again.

I've nothing too much to report. Spent the last couple hours of Friday evening trolling around Sand Island without any hits.

Trolled and anchored on Saturday from 7:30am-4pm with same results.

I've been thinking I see you down there Gary, but it's always another Hewes. We fished last Wed. and got a couple good fish at the channel deadline. Fished the area again on Fri., saw very little and came home with zip. Fished the channel head on Sat. and saw a few caught, but considering the number of boats, it was slowww. Spent Easter afternoon at Coon Isld. and didn't see a thing (nor had the Gilbert Riv. checker). I'm giving it a day or three.....

Trollin found a couple first thing Saturday a.m. at the mouth of the Santosch (sp?) Slough. First (about 12#'s) hit a cut plug green label fished tight to the bottom with an 18" dropper right at 6:00. Next pass, same program. Second fish was nice hen about 25#'s. Two keepers in the boat by 7:00! Saw about 6 others caught, heard one boat had 3. All over before 8:00.

First trip with my new Motion Marine Fishing Machine - aptly named. We were'nt fishing more than 15 minutes before we got Springer blood all over it. Those diamond plate floors really look good all blood spattered!

At about 3:30 fish checker at Bay Port said he'd checked 4 fish for 11 boats from the Channel. And 11 fish for 27 boats in the Columbia.

Hey FF,

I was in a white Spectrum. I got there (GR) right about 12:30. Headed out again this afternoon, probably St. Helens. I'll update if anything goes....

Fished this morning (Tues) from 6:20 to 8:30, mostly upstream of Gilbert ramp, trolling herring. Saw two caught for about 15 boats.

A tight knot of 12 or so boats appeared to anchored up at the north end of WillowBar, hopefully one of them will report what's happening.

As we quit this morning, a guy waiting for a boat said he'd plunked WIllowBar on Monday and saw about a dozen fish for 30 rods, in about three hours.

What are the boat ramps into the channel at or near Cornelius Pass Rd? I have launched down at Scapoose Bay, but I am looking for something slightly closer. thanks dc

I took the kids out plunking a couple days ago and a guy next to us hammered a 26+ clipped springer. It was the biggest fish I've seen caught this year. Of course me and my boys scored another goose egg and ended the month of March with no springers.

On a sidenote I just got off the phone with a freind and they are kicking butt on the Springers in the lower river (Cathlamet area). They were plunking off the beach and had 6 fish for 7 rods. They also were doing extremly well out of the boats .

A day or two and were going to be seeing some good action I do believe.

Spent from noon to dark at St. Helens and didn't see or hear of a single fish caught. I worked the bar below Warrior Rock for awhile then trolled the channel from Gilbert River down to the mouth. I think Friday will be my next outting, maybe the waves of hungry salmoniods will be around by then. I think I'm at about 72 hours of fishing in the last week on my rod and only 1 fish Dry, dry, dry...... :depressed: :depressed: :depressed:

Fished Sand Island on Saturday with on steelhead fisherman and Pop's. All the Steelhead fisherman could say was "BORING". "Is this what it is like to springer fish"? "Boring" "Boring" "Boring".

Anyway, Saw about 80 boats or so in different locations. We saw about 10 fish caught. Pretty "Boring" day even I will have to agree.

Still enjoyed the day and found the area has lots of deep water in the anchor up area. Hummmmmm. What time should I get there?

Warning. The fish are coming!!!!!

I fished the St. Helens area last April (thanks to an invite by Dan Neil), but I haven't ventured out there this year, as it's a three hour drive for me and the action doesn't sound anything like last years adventures. :depressed: Did I miss all the excitement or is this still early for the Salmon run? My dad is coming out from Colorado with a friend and I'd love to have him hook a springer  What's the word: Is it worth the drive or should I be looking closer to Portland for my Salmon this year? Springer fishin. huh..... :depressed: Wonder who that steelhead fisherman was I think David would agree with me on this individual.

You just don't know what it is like to fish with this guy. Constantly changing gear, harrasing other boats, yak yak yak. A guy just can get any sleep with a person like this on board.

Watching paint dry......huh. I guess we did that 7 times yesterday right David? he he he.
