Default The Ideal Rod for a Van Staal VS-150

I just got my new Van Staal VS-150 reel today and have been perplexed over the ideal rod to attach it to. As a retired Marine I have not done enough fishing for steelies and salmon but prefer the spinning rod to a baitcaster and hence the Van Staal. I have discussed this with a few people to include some custom rod builders and there have been to many options for me to make a clear choice. I don't want to go top of the line like the reel because I am building a new shop and the wife already has thoughts on my sanity. Anyway, advice is sought. Thanks

Wow, something I'd never heard of! I did a search and learned that these reels are bail-less, super long casting, and look really cool with their weight lightening cut outs. But some folks talk about problems casting them in the wind and others say the drag isn't consistent. So what makes these reels so exceptional? Tell me about them!
