Default Dodger on kokanee Trolling Rig Setups

Where do you normally tie the dodger to on your kokanee setup? I've seen some pictures where the dodger is tied directly to the lure but that adds resistance when fighting the fish. Isn't it suppose to go to the ball or inline with the release clip somewhere?

My dodger is connected directly to my lure. Sling blades and other small dodgers have very little resistance in the fight of a fish.

If I use a gang troll, my preference is to attach it to the down rigger ball. But, I'll run them connected to an apex or spinner if the fish are hitting that. It does effect the fight and IMHO leads to lost fish as the fish is pulling against the flashers as well.

What's the downside to attaching the small dodger to the ball?

The dodger gives the lure action by moving it side to side, when using an Apex the leader is longer and it does not have this effect & the Apex has it's own action.

the dodger goes on your line. If you are running a gang troll then you could run that on the ball. Lures with action should run 18" to 30" behind the dodger. Lures without action should run anywhere from 6" to 12" behind the dodger.

attaching the dodger to the ball stops the action of the dodger. Dodgers are designed to run inline. If you are concerned about drag, use a sling blade or a signature dodger.
