Default Nestucca River?

I am planning on fishing the Nestucca River this weekend and would appreciate some info on the river.

I have floated from Beaver to Three Rivers before but I would like to try from the sixth bridge down. Is there anything to watch out for in this section? Where exactly is the launch at the sixth bridge, I have friends who live on the river at the sixth bridge (north of the road and east of the river)? If I put in at this point how far should I drift in one day, what would be the best takeout?

Thanks!

V. Green,

I would be very careful of the rapid below the sixth bridge, especially in light of the low water we are experiencing. But, no doubt there are fish in that section, maybe it's worth a few anxious moments. (It is next to impossible to "line")

V. Green,

I forgot to add that I generally take out at the fourth bridge if I'm drifting the "upper section". On occasion, with enough water and less fish, I go all the way to first bridge, but that is a long day.

You might want to check at the store in Heboto see where fish are being caught -- don't know if you saw my post from a couple days ago...with a picture of my first steelhead caught Saturday 3/2 --- a whopper, 4 sure -- we drifted from 1st bridge to 3 Rivers and had 4 fish in the second half of the day (seems it was too cold for a bite in the morning hours).

Rags is right. This is one where "if ya gotta ask ya maybe you can't afford it" deals.Sixth is tricky at higher levels.I am going soon and unless the level changes I'll go lower.Maybe 1st to farmers.
Good Luck.

Thanks for the info

What river & section would you compare this to?

I will likely stay below the fourth bridge, most likely the 1st bridge for this trip but I would like to try that stretch sometime.

I used to fish from 1st bridge and stop at my friends place at West Creek, but they moved upstream to the sixth bridge so I no longer get the chance to warm up after having been on the water.

If you have never floated this section I would go with someone who knows it. The rapid below 6th could be nasty at low water. I float from 1st most of the time. I have been told the water should be around 6 feet before you make this float.

V, I wouldn't run the 6th until the water is at least 5.5 or so. There are a few tricky spots and one very tricky spot that you need to stay left or your gonna be there for a while. That rapid you can see from the road just up from the 5 1/2 slide. There are some rollers that will get your blood pumpin' also, kinda fun.

From 4th bridge up is Extreamly Challenging water and should only be attempted by highly experienced LOCAL persons. Outside visitors to the area above 4th. will probably encounter Massive whitewater, huge drop offs, silent creepers and sweepers to reach out and turn your boat every which way but where you be. 24 boats this year have gone down already above 1st bridge. Trees have been known to fall without warning on unsuspecting tourists.
Beavers have been attacking women and children and have also been found to have Rabies. Recent Bear sightings and Cougar droppings along the shoreline between 4th and sixth bridge have been keeping fisherman in their boats so banking it is out. Plus there are NO fish in the system above three rivers anyway so whats the point. Yeah, a few outsiders have put in at FarmerCreek and Rockhole but very few have survived to talk about their Horrific adventure. Best just to recommend Three rivers to Cloverdale. Better to be safe than a statistic..

Think Fish
(somewhere else, Wilson is always a Carnival)

Dont forget the Carnival this weekend on these two rivers. There will be games and prizes, Rides and animals to pet. Crowds Galore.... Dont forget the Hot Dog BBQ and drinks Just below Fourth bridge. Bring one, Bring all! Boats, Canoes, Rubber Rafts and inner tubes.... Whatever floats.... The More the Marrier.......We are hoping to make this the biggest most busiest day on the river this year!!! If you have just one day this year to be on the river, this is it!!!!

Toblerone forgot to mention the Big Foot sightings and the troll who lives under the rapid below the sixth bridge. He eats Hot Shots, Tadpollies and anyone who sits in the rowing seat
of a drift boat!!

My advice, drift Rock Creek , a tributary of the Nehalem!
