Default Castle Lake

Anyone hiked into Castle Lake before? Have a message into the Ranger in charge of that are...probably a bit early to get in. Was looking at maps, and seems like quit the drive and hike in. Just wondering if it is worth it. Read in FlyFishing WA that it holds some big trout. Was hoping that someone could confirm and possibly suggest best access route.

It's not the hike in, it's the hike out that is the killer!! I've been there one time, did not catch anything. I would spend my time at Coldwater if you have some kind of flotation. Or sneak in to Spirit Lake. Just kidding .

I fished it once years ago. There used to be a gated road you could use to hike in/out, though I've heard it's overgrown and hard to find now. Otherwise it's straight down for maybe 1/2 mile. And straight back up. Caught a couple 12 inchers between the 3 of us fishing for a day. Long drive in, and hard to find via the logging roads, so be sure to get a map of the roads before you try to find it. I've never bothered to try to go back.
