New Orleans/Louisiana Fishing
Help me out here guys/gals. Our family is taking a "family" vacation in the last week of April. What are all the types of fishing available, and can anyone recommend guides, etc? I know bass fishing exists... what else? This is my first step to finding who's who. Suggestions?
Matt

Ripdatlip,
Had the good fortune to fish there more than once. Forget the bass! You want to go down to the marshes and fish for Redfish and Speckeld Trout. Or go out in the Gulf and fish for the exotics like Tuna or jacks and Marlin. I recomend you try Louisiana Sportsman.com. You will want to move there after you leave. It's awsome!
Best of luck.

Re: New Orleans/Louisiana Fishing
Rip, when you go you have to forget the bass and go salt water fishing. If you know anyone with dish network tv, they can help you out a lot. Channel 153 shows a lot of fishing down south of New Orleans. Sorta like fishing the flats in Florida. Red Fish and Speckled trout are there year round and will give new meanings to ripdatlip. I am sure you could find some guides in the yellow pages off the internet. Do a search for Louisiana and fishing and who knows what lurkes down yander, I mean down thare.
Good luck and post the results. I love the Gulf Coast salt water fishery. Grew up near Galveston Bay in Texas. Lots of old memories of fishing with Dad.

Re: New Orleans/Louisiana Fishing
Matt....my brother lives in New Orleans...and he's seriously into fishing, when he's not working 70hrs a week as a chef.
Here's the last pic he sent me, he's the one holding the MONSTER redfish.
E-mail me, and I'll send you his phone number and e-mail address if you'd like it.

Re: New Orleans/Louisiana Fishing
i have to agree. forget the fresh water and go for salt. specks and reds are good fighters, but in the gulf, you never know what you're going to get. flounder, drum (look out for the teeth!), catfish, croaker, tarpon, shark. you just never know. like snapshot, i grew up in the vicinity of galveston myself and had a ball fishing with my dad, too.
have fishing and hunting news send you a copy of their latest texas issue (yes, they have F&H news there). you'll find plenty of ads for guides in it. good luck and what your fingers!

Re: New Orleans/Louisiana Fishing
Saltwater huh? Okay. How do I choose one guide and why are they so expensive? I don't have lots of money.
These fish can be taken by flyfishing or casting/spinning?

Re: New Orleans/Louisiana Fishing
actually, flyfishing the flats for reds and specks can be productive if you're in the right place at the right time throwing the right stuff. this is why the guides are so expensive. they are out there every day putting clients into fish. you can try to do it on your own, but if you do, stick with bait and stay near the crowds. it's no guarantee, but unless you want to shell the bucks, it'll be your best bet.
