Where are the kokes in this topo map?
Looking to tackle this lake for 1st time koke fishing. Just bought a DR and will give it a go. This is a 250 acre lake w/ 40k koke stock in 09. I think they are little ones. Anyways, where are my best chances to get into some action?

I don't remember ever reading any kokanee reports from Lake Sawyer. I think your best bet would be to troll early season up high and go down to the deeper depths in the summer where the cooler water would be. If you have a temperature gauge try to find the depth where the water is around 54 degrees or look for the thermocline on your fishfinder. You should see the schools at a specific depth. If your getting into trout but no kokes drop a bit deeper. Also, try jigging just off the bottom while anchored up or drifting out in the middle targeting suspended fish.

I would start by cruising the lake looking for jumpers this time of year. Kokes being a plankton eater I would also look for areas where the wind drift would concentrate plankton into a cove. As we get later in the year I would start looking for them out in the middle where the lake gets deepest.

Having no idea what lake you are talking about and where the lake is, it will be hard for anyone to give you any meaningful information. Where is the lake and what is the name of the lake?

I'd start looking to the east of the two 50' "deep" spots. This is a fairly small and shallow lake, finding the fish should be easy.

Yeah I didnt know sawyer had anything besides bass and perch in it, please let us know if you find some kokes there. Once the weather breaks its hard to avoid all the skiers and pwc's on that lake.

I never fished for kokes before and didn't know if they prefer a certain terrain, drops, flats, etc. Just kind of wanted to gauge where I should focus my efforts. I'm still learning to use my FF/GPS. It's a Raymarine DS500X. Do folks usually use to the auto depth feature or do you prefer to manual select depth?
I took it to a lake last summer. In the fish symbol modes, I was seeing a bunch of fish from different spots. In the arch mode, I couldn't tell what I was seeing. It's not like the brochure where u see an obvious arch. Will you see "weeds" as little green/blue dots. How do intrepret what's what? Will a small koke come up as an arch?

Re: Where are the kokes in this topo map?
There have been some very good suggestions so far. Pay special note to Doc's post. The fish are where the food is.
As for the Raymarine I have the same unit and like it a lot. Dense schools of fish cause the unit to think they are the bottom at times so when this begins to occurr I put it into manual set for the appropriate location I am fishing. My unit does not have the fish symbol function but if yours does... TURN IT OFF! The fish symbol is just the ff seeing something, anything, suspended off the bottom and just identifies it as a fish. You will quickly learn to dislike the option as you learn how to read your units display.
Lowrance has a great online tutorial:

Enjoy and welcome to the wonderful world of kokanee.

Kokanee like cool/cold water and in a shallow lake like this they will be found near the deep water. I don't fish bottom structure much for kokanee they tend to suspend over deep water or in the shallow lake I often fish (50' max depth) down in the weeds during the day. Crank up your sonar power and locate the thermocline and fish around it. I assumed that the prevailing wind would be from the west so I suggested the spots that I posted. Any underwater springs will change things a bit.

Re: Where are the kokes in this topo map?
Yes kokes should show up as arches, but sometimes you may need to tinker with the gain or sensitivity to get them to show up appropriately. This is also part of why I now have a Furuno, things that looked like a bunch of scattered dots on my old finder now show up as beautiful arches on my Furuno. The Raymarine unit should be very capable of giving you nice arches. Kokanee have very large swim bladders and therefore should show up in a nice orange color most of the time. With my furuno, I have been switching to manual gain and turning it up a bit to get better images of fish but this will increase the background clutter on the screen also. The fish also look a bit different on the 50 vs the 200 khz so it is nice to run them side by side on the screen until you are used to that difference on the screen.
