I'm bringing this to the top hopefuly BOE will be able to help out on this one. Not too sure how to explain how to get there.

Head to Tillamook. When you get there head North on 101 to the town of Garibaldi. Keep heading North to Barview store. Take a Left @ the store. Head for the water, just before you reach the water you will see a big grey sign that says "BARVIEW CAMPGROUND". Take a right into the campground. Go to your left and follow the road all the way back to the full hookup's or you can stay in any of the primative sights along the way.

I use a good stiff rod to fish with. I get about a 3/4 - 1 oz lead on the bottom of the line and I set up a couple (2) side jigs or hooks with bait. I don't cast out very far because the fish are in shallow spawning, and I wait for a bite to reel in. You can do this in the day or at night. Night fishing is always more productive.

WGF - Barview is basically the North Jetty at Tillamook Bay. Coming from Chehalis I dont know if you are driving down to PDX and then over to the coast or if you plan on driving down HWY101. Either way Barview is about 1 mile north of Garibaldi, which is about 10 miles North of Tillamook. You will see a little store at Barview and you will turn at that Barveiw store and drive thru Barview County Park staying left and driving out till you are at the big parking lot on the North Jetty near the coast guard tower. Not as hard as somebody might think to find.

As far as tackle, bring your favorite spinning reel set up is my suggestion. I will be tossing 1/4 and 1/2 ounce lead headed jigs with 3 inch twisty tail rubber worms.

This is not quite like surf fishing from a sandy beach, we will be on the jetty fishing from a big boulder and casting into the bay side of the jetty. Plenty of wave action on a rough night to make you stay away from the waters edge. It is a cast and slow retrieve type of fishery at night.

People will be fishing during the daylight hours with a weight on the end of the line and a couple baits above it, such as shrimp, clam necks etc... At night most everybody out their will switch over to rubber worms and lead headed jigs.

Looking forward to meeting you there. Hope you like oysters on the BBQ

Anyone spending the night at the campground?
If so, how much does it cost and should I make reservations ahead of time?

I'm raring to go, and the freezer needs filling!

I'll be staying there. For full hook-up's it's $25.00 a night for a primative campsite, No water, electric or sewer hook-ups, $20.00 a night. I'm not sure if they charge for the overflow parking there at the Coast Guard tower.

I don't know if they accept reservations or not. I could have swore that the last time I asked they said no, it was a first come first serve basis only. But When we were down there last month I thought I saw on their sign reservations accepted. I'm going to call down there tomorrow and see if they do.

BOE-
I think that the wife and I will be there. I can probably bring a generator but don't have any lights. Are you wanting people to bring generators and lights?

Fishchaser - they only have a few campsites they reserve last time I checked. I think the rest of the sites are first come, first serve. It may be spring break that week, but I still dont think the place will fill up. I camped there for 4 spring breaks in a row from 94 to 97 and the place was never 1/2 full.

Grits - If you have a generator, that would be great. I have a few halogen lights that really light up the place. Maybe some other people will bring some halogen lights on stands and we can make it look like a grizwalds christmas decoration out on the rocks

CAN ANYONE GIVE ME THE NAME OF MOTELS IN THE AREA?I also need the phone numbers if you have them.
Since the 23rd is on a Saturday, Will Friday or Saturday night be the big gathering at the jetty? I will be lucky to have the wife come for one night little on two. I want to be there the night of the jetty fishing as a group. And when will there be BBQ oysters? What can I do to help or bring to contribute?

I have fished the jetty a lot in the day. But I have only tried it once at night. I used bait and got not even a bite so I left. Does night fishing with jigs really work. What do you catch rock bass. And do the jigs need to be glow in the dark, or can you use anything. I think night fishing would be a blast but don't really know how to do it, any help would be great thanks.

Royal Western Inn at Garibaldi Ray. Real nice and has a pool. Between 50 to 60 per night. Hotel is about 4 years old. Great chilli burgers across the street at the pub. Good breakfast eats at the Marina launch area.

Boe, Uncle Bob and I are checking into that weekend. We will let ya know if it is going to work out or not. Sounds like a lot of fun. I have never targeted those fishies before. Something new. Hey Ray, GI Joes has the new Mickey Poles. $16.00!!!! What do ya think?

The biggest difference between Jettyfishing and surf fishing is that surf fishing is pretty much snag free and jetty fishing will cost you whatever you threw in every damn time until you get the hang of it.

First of all, unfortunately, the rocks are both where the fish are and where you'll get snagged. When you cast out, go just beyond where the sand ends and the rocks start. As you retreive, each time you hit a rock, give a good upwards pull and quickly real up that line. Remember that as you retrieve, the snaggy rocks are getting shallower. Never allow your gear to just sit on the rocks...it will wash into a crevace and you'll loose it almost every time; once you reach the rocks, always keep it moving.

Those scampi or similar lures are the ticket, but they are not cheep. Once you've donated a few, you'll learn where the bottom is and the angle of shallowing. Then you'll be able to judge just how to keep your jig out of the rocks, but just barely so the fish can see it and attack from their holes.

Another less costly option is to flyline bait. Stick a herring on a hook and with minimal sliding led, cast lenghtwise accross the jetty. Let it sit during the surge ebb, and then give a little pull just before and after a wave goes by so the moving water doesn't drag your line over the rocks. Once you find a spot that produces but doesn't snag (a table or overhang), keep working it. Typically these spots will house more than one fish and as soon as you pull out the dominant fish from the cherriest spot, another will stake his claim there and dare you mess with him.

Good luck!
DC

Jetty fishing for these sea bass is not rocket science. ¼ to ½ oz jig with 3” chartreuse curly tail grubs fished with a trout rod is all you need. If I can catch them anyone can. Cast out and let it sink a bit and retrieve. Fish will hit and reel in. That’s it. Bring a dozen or so jigs. If you lose all you bring I’m sure some of us will have plenty to share.

Bring a flash light or better yet get one of those lights that mount on your head. That makes retying your jig easier and your less likely to drop it. Otherwise a cheap flashlight will work and you wont have to try to retrieve it.

BigSpinner, the fishing is better at night and the fillet’s make for a great breakfast.

See you all there!!!

Hey Roy, My Dad made me an oyster opener. I'll bring it for you to check out. Pull the handle and pop goes the oyster. No more screwdriver through the palm ...

You're netting and cleaning all the fish I catch, right Roy?

Pilar - I would be happy to net all your fish  But I dont clean fish, I got married 8 years ago, and all you married guys know thats what wifes are for

I have never seen a custom oyster shucker, I will be interested in checking it out. When they "pop" on the BBQ it usually dont take much to get them open. I have a custom device for cleaning cockle clams that is real slick to get them out of the shell. Cockles are kind of in the lower realm of clams to harvest, but they are easy to dig when others cannot be gotten.

If you can talk my wife into cleaning your fish, please let me know what you said. I think you may not like the answer you get, you will probably hear the same one I usually hear.
