Default Best Boat Rod?

What's the opinion on the best all-around Boat rod under $150 for Columbia anchor fishing kwikfish for springers, spinners for summer steelhead, and alvins for URB's? And the occaisional trolling. I was looking at the medium bouncer G-1333T at 7'6 or the Hot Shot Magnum G-1330T at 8' by Lami. Thanks.

I just purchased two G1330T Hot Shot Magnums 8' with a #10-#20 rating. I have used them a couple of times and they seem just about perfect for dragging a bait and 3 or 4 ounces of lead for springers. Personally I think they are a bit heavy for Summer Steelhead and a bit light for Columbia River Fall Chinook. But, they are ideal for springers and medium sized tributary, salmon diver bait rigs.

I have also recently purchased a couple more Lami X80MBCT Pro-Bouncers(think I've had 4 now). In my opinion they are the ultimate chinook rod for all occassions. Just the right combination of power and sensitivity. The action is fast, but not too fast. They stay "loaded" a bit longer which adds an ounce of forgiveness when Mr. Tyee takes those quick runs back and forth under the boat.Yet the rod is so light and sensitive, you could drift fish for steelhead with it. And, the new models,Translucent Brown with Fuji Concept Guides just may be the best lookin' rod on the water! My only problem is they are hard to find. FMS and GI Joes will get one at a time and they are sold immediatley.

I use a G. Loomis GL2 HSR1021C. At 8' 6" it may be a hair long for a boat rod, but it works great for me. Line rated at 10-20 lb. test with a weight rating of 3/8 - 4oz.

Hogtide, what did you pay for the Pro-Bouncer and where did you get them?

I'm going to go break in my new 8 ft MBCT Pro Bouncer Lami tomorrow!
I'll let you know how she does on springers!

Is she EVER pretty! I just took her out of the plastic for the first time.
Want to see the skunk come off in one trip?

Loomis's HSR 983 or equivalent would be perfect.

I think I purchased the last two rods at FMS and then GI Joes next door, 10 minutes later. They were both about $150...relatively cheap for any comparable rod...don't let Lami People read this.

And, yes Jennie they are pretty. The dark brown and matching wrap reminds me of the early Sage drift rods. Lamiglas makes the effort to space 13 guides on this 8' rod. It looks like a custom built job.

I bought three Pescaro rods at the Sportsman's Show for $90 (yes, for all three). They are eight foot rods with ten guides rated to 40lbs. Should work fine for trolling bait for springers, Bouy 10, or keeper sturgeon.

Yes, I love my GLomis, Lamiglass, etc. rods, too, but I want to be able to hand a kid or a first time angler a rod that will do the job but not break my heart or the bank when they break it or lose it over the side.

I agree that sensitivity is very important in some situations. I do not understand the need for a highly sensitive plug-cut puller or bobber rod for fall chinook.

Whats the best rod? The one with the fishy on the other end!!

While Gloomis and lamiglass are good rods they are way overpriced. Its kind of like some people dont feel they are getting good products unless they shop at nordstroms. There are many other rod manufactures that make quality products for sometimes less than half the cost of the loomis or lami's. My best all purpose (keeper sturgeon, spring and fall salmon, plug pulling for steelhead rods) are berkley im7 one piece 7' 9" backbouncers rated 15-50lb line cost about 80 bucks. They are light and fast in the tip with plenty of backbone. I do however upsize the rods when casting bigger than 6 ounces of lead for sturgeon. The key to buying the right rod for you is to buy one that has the right action for you and price for you. Expensive isnt always better.

I bought a 8 1/2' Rogue rod rated for 12-25# line. The finish on this rod is nicer than the lamis or the loomis rods. It has a magnum taper, sensitive tip, the best quality cork I've seen on a rod. No springers on it yet but I did land some sturgeon. I haven't seen these rods in many stores yet. Bobs in Longview carries them. Check them out.
