Default Opening Weekend

Anyone know which Central Oregon lakes will be open this weekend? Will Big Lava or Cultus lake be open?

Most Lakes in Oregon will be open for trout this weekend, the thing you need to watch is trout fishing in streams and rivers. Trout season doesn’t open for coastal streams until May 22nd. Cultus Lake is open year round, and Lava Lake opens on April 24th. For a full list of rules visit -

Good Luck!

In the Outdoor section of the Registered Rag paper here in Eugene it reported that Lava was still going to have ice. You can double check by calling the lodge there. Not sure on Cultus.

Got word from Karen at Paulina that they're shooting to open May 1st. Half the lake still has ice on it. Doesn't mean you can't try to go fish it this weekend, just be very careful and where a full body, life-suit.

David at East said no open water except a little patch at the Hot Springs. May be a while before it's open (typically always a couple weeks later than Paulina).

Amateur weekend is a good time to have a cabin and sit by the fire drinking a beverage of preference or just stay home and do the same. Let the crowd go home and then enjoy the day

Went up to Odell today, Thursday 4/22. Looks as if all therr camp grounds will not be open. While I was at Shelter Cove Resort a couple came in looking for a place to stay. They were not to happy with who ever said on the internet that the camp grounds were open. They walked through the gate and I think she said Princess ck. and it ws full of snow. I know there is 2' plus at the west end. Shelter Cove is wide open, ramp also. SO if you are going up To Odell you may want to call the forest service or someone to find out for sure what is going on. Or Shelter Cove. It was a beautiful day. Good luck and be SAFE.
