Never fished the Yak, but if it's got smallies - Lefty's Deceivers, Clouser Minnows, Murray's Strymphs, and the good old Woolly Bugger should catch 'em if anything will. When the water warms up and fish are feeding at or near the surface - just about any type of slider, diver, or popper should work also. Would have a variety between say, size 6 and 1/0. Trout have been known to clobber bass patterns before too

I usually use clousers, and brownish buggers to imitate the craws which are on of the smallies favorite foods. Try tying some brown/red even some orange in there buggers with some rubber legs.

I have a NWFF mag for the lower yak that the author highlighted a fly called the bananorama a bright yellow lead eyed bunny leech that was his favorite fly.

Carry both if you can, if not, a floater will be more versatile. Or you can get a floater, and a sinking leader, or one of the loop-attached sink tips that you can remove if you need a straight up floating line.

That works. And don't be afraid to put some small splitshot on the leader if you can't get the fly down (I know, heresy!) - several small shot cast way easier than one larger shot. Space them out on the leader.
