Default Santiam

The nates are in and it won't be long before a good push of summers. I have a DB but don't know the N.Santiam other than Greens Bridge to Jeff and haven't done that in years. Anyone wish to enlighten me? I did Stayton to Shelburn once and was wondering about other drifts and their difficulty.

Sliderite,
I havent heard about anyone doing the Shelburn run yet. Im going to fly over it one day this coming week to see how bad the island section is.

I hear the Stayton to Shelburn run is easy. I havent done it yet, but Im planning on doing it soon. I would also like to learn the Mehama to Stayton drift. From what Ive been told it there is nothing to worry about. I quess the the diversion dam can be a pain though.

Im going to get a key to take out at hwy. 226 on the south. I have access to private property just below Lebanon to launch or retreive a boat. Ive been down that stretch in a sled and there is some sweet looking water n there.

Is there a new jam on the shelburn to greens run? I float this run once or twice a year and the last few years haven't been bad.

Sliderite,
The drift from green's bridge to jefferson is pretty easy. I've done it for the last 4 weekends and going again in the a.m.. The only spot that is confusing is called the "Chicken foot" ( a three way split) stay on the middle path! A lot of down trees along the bank but nothing to worry about throughout the drift. The jet boats get heavy at the fork, but most are courteous.
Good luck if you decide to go!

Sea Lice, I will be at Greens bridge in the morning also. Look for a blue Willies DB with an 8 horse Merc on the back and say Hello.

Joe,
If the weather isnt too bad on wed. A guy I work with is going to fly me all the way up the north from the mouth to the dam. I will let you know what I see if we go. Im curious to see the river from the air. Im liking the idea of using an airplane to scout rivers.

If anyone is on the Santiam wed and you see a low flying Cesna, Wave at us

check out how much old growth forest is left! That's pretty impressive, as well as the relationship between landslides and clearcuts. See the old-growth at Opal Creek (upper Little N. Santiam). Flying in little planes is great fun!
